We are looking for a Optimization Engineer - Energy to join our Energy department based in Louvain-la-Neuve.

What you’ll do

Together with the N-SIDE team, you will contribute to the R&D of our Optimization Algorithms, with a primary focus on Market Clearing solutions, by designing and implementing cutting-edge methods.

As an Optimization Engineer, you will also contribute to maintaining and developing our existing solutions. You will interact closely with business experts and the product users to continuously refine our value proposition and ensure a good market fit.

As an Optimization Engineer, you will also participate in the technical growth of the product and team. You will therefore:

Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in software development and optimization techniques.

Depending on your seniority level, you may also mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering their growth within the team. Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.

By providing qualitative code reviews and participating in technical choices around our product, you will ensure that the team develops efficient, reusable, and reliable code, and that they adhere to coding standards, best practices, and company guidelines.

About you

• You have a master's degree or PhD in Applied Mathematics or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• You have solid optimization skills, with a focus on large MIP, LP, and QP. Barrier algorithm, Simplex, B&B, and PDHG are no secret to you.
• You demonstrate capacity and will to innovate. You have already implemented or worked with large optimization models, and proposed innovative solutions to improve their scalability and performance.
• You are interested in scientific computing and numerical analysis. You understand how algorithms are implemented in practice.
• You have experience in software development. You are familiar with Object-Oriented Programming. Proficiency in Java is a plus.
• You demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. You are able to break down complex problems into manageable components and devise efficient solutions.
• You have a continuous learning mindset. The tech stack is constantly evolving, so a willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and best practices is essential for long-term success.
• You have a great team spirit, creativity, sense of initiative, and responsibility. You are willing to share your knowledge and, depending on your seniority level, to mentor junior profiles.
• Leveraging agentic coding for rapid prototyping and proofs-of-concept is no secret for you.
• Experience in the Energy sector, in particular electricity markets and power systems operation, is a nice-to-have;
• You are fluent in English.
