Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems. The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit 🐈⬛ . In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously! We're a diverse team of 250+ brilliant minds from over 35 countries united by a single goal: to revolutionise computing with a practical fault-tolerant quantum machine.
Are you ready to take on unprecedented challenges and contribute to revolutionising technology? Join us, and let's shape the future of quantum computing together! Purpose of the role In a context where Alice & Bob's R&D increasingly relies on structured, end-to-end data to design, simulate and measure its quantum processors, ABDB is the platform that holds that data (chip designs, wafers, simulations, measurements, cooldowns) and serves it to research teams and to downstream tools.
With the Frontier team taking product ownership of ABDB and the platform moving to a scalable cloud infrastructure, the Full-Stack Software Engineer Intern strengthens the team's capacity to deliver the features its users need and to open the platform to AI agents as active participants in the R&D loop. Reporting to the Frontier Team Manager and tutored by ABDB's lead developer, they will work closely with the Frontier team and with ABDB's user teams (Chip Design, Quantum Hardware Infrastructure, Platform) to ship features end-to-end, from user need to production.
Responsibilities: Deliver features on the ABDB platform end-to-end Implement prioritized backlog items across the stack: web application (UI/UX), REST API and business logic, Python client Translate user requests from research teams into specified, tested, documented features Participate in release preparation and user communication Extend ABDB's programmatic and agentic access Design and implement write-capable MCP tools (upload of simulation/measurement artefacts, annotations, cross-checks between designs and experiments) Implement the validation, permission and audit mechanisms required for safe agent participation Evolve the Python client in line with researcher and agent needs Modernize data ingestion and integration paths Replace fileserver-based ingestion flows with API-based uploads Maintain and extend integrations with upstream and downstream tools (Starboard, catographer, anb-exp, simulation pipelines) Contribute to platform performance and reliability Optimize queries and data access for high-load usage patterns on the cloud-hosted platform Improve observability, automated testing and CI Use AI coding agents as part of the team's standard development workflow Support other Frontier interfaces as needs arise Contribute to Starboard and GENCI-related deliverables Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and documentation Requirements: You are comfortable moving between frontend, backend and data layers, and curious about how AI agents can be integrated into engineering and research workflows.
Education: Final-year Master's degree or engineering school (Bac+5) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field Languages: Proficient in English Experience: Previous internship or significant personal/academic projects in full-stack or backend development Solid programming skills in Python Familiarity with a backend web framework and/or a frontend framework Good understanding of relational databases, SQL and data modeling Working knowledge of Git, code review practices and automated testing Interest in LLM tooling (MCP, agents, evaluation harnesses) and in AI-assisted development Interest in scientific or R&D data and in understanding users' needs Ability to work autonomously, communicate clearly and ask for help early Rigor and attention to reliability when working on a platform used daily by many teams Nice to have: Experience with FastAPI and React (ABDB's stack) is a strong plus French is a plus Benefits: - 1 day off per month - Half of transportation cost coverage (as per French law) - Meal vouchers with Swile, as well as access to a fully equipped and regularly stocked kitchen Research shows that women might feel hesitant to apply for this job if they don't match 100% of the job requirements listed.
This list is a guide, and we'd love to receive your application even if you think you're only a partial match. We are looking to build teams that innovate, not just tick boxes on a job spec. You will join of one of the most innovative startups in France at an early stage, to be part of a passionate and friendly team on its mission to build the first universal quantum computer! We love to share and learn from one another, so you will be certain to innovate, develop new ideas, and have the space to grow.
