The Business
ADI’s Data Center & Energy business is the key provider of power solutions serving the breadth of ADI’s end markets. As part of a long term sustainable growth plan, ADI is expanding its power team in Ireland, supporting the development of highly integrated power solutions. Data Center & Energy BU will present the successful candidate a great opportunity for continuous career development as part of a highly motivated and supportive worldwide engineering team.
The Team
The Power Controller (PWC) Design team has the mission to expand ADI’s current portfolio of power devices, innovating through, for example, the addition of new smart control features and integrated digital configurability. The team is growing its power solutions to complement the existing mixed-signal products and advance toward cutting-edge technologies.
The PWC organization is looking for a Principal Engineer, Analog Design Engineering, with deep expertise in power DC-DC converters. The candidate will lead analog IC design and technical project execution, working with digital design, verification, layout, test, and silicon evaluation teams to deliver power-controller products into production.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to
- Provide technical leadership for analog and mixed-signal IC design of power DC-DC converter controllers, from architecture and feasibility through production release.
- Define converter architectures and design critical circuits, including control loops, gate drivers, current sensing, protection, and power-management functions.
- Apply deep circuit-design expertise to optimize stability, transient response, efficiency, accuracy, noise, and robustness across process, voltage, and temperature.
- Lead system and transistor-level design reviews; establish specifications, simulation plans, design margins, and sign-off criteria for key analog blocks.
- Own technical delivery of multiple IC design projects, coordinating priorities, schedules, design decisions, risks, and dependencies across engineering teams.
- Guide schematic design, behavioral modeling, mixed-signal integration, and verification of analog-digital interfaces and converter operating modes.
- Work closely with digital designers to share system-level requirements, agree on the desired behavior, and review the delivered digital solutions.
- Partner with layout engineers on matching, parasitics, isolation, power routing, electromigration, ESD, and latch-up to achieve robust physical implementation.
- Direct silicon bring-up and laboratory characterization; correlate measurements with simulations, resolve design issues, and support qualification and production ramp.
- Work with product, applications, and test teams to translate customer and system needs into product requirements and support production test and field debug.
- Lead technical reviews and communicate design status, trade-offs, risks, and mitigation plans clearly to project stakeholders and senior management.
- Mentor analog designers, develop team capability, and promote reusable circuits, rigorous design practices, and effective cross-team collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
BSEE (or equivalent) + 12+ years of relevant experience in analog IC design; advanced degree a plus.
Experience in high-voltage analog circuit design
- Solid foundation in semiconductor physics
- Proven technical leadership of multiple ICs design from concept through tape-out, including ownership of verification plans, sign-off readiness and laboratory validation.
- Expertise in precision analog blocks, current sensing, gate drivers, fault protection, and digitally configurable power systems.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of transistor-level analog circuit design and power DC-DC converter architectures, control loops, and power-management circuits.
- Demonstrated technical leadership of engineering teams and complex IC projects, including planning, design reviews, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination.
- Strong expertise in analog simulation, including stability analysis, PVT and mismatch verification, layout-aware design, and mixed-signal simulations.
- Good knowledge of IC reliability, ESD and latch-up prevention, electromigration, and production test considerations.
- Proficiency with Cadence analog design tools, SPICE simulation, and mixed-signal design and verification flows.
- Experience of System-level analysis using tools such as SIMPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink or Mathcad.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, project status, and risks effectively to engineers and management
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in behavioural modeling using languages such as SystemVerilog.
- Experience delivering multiphase buck or high-performance DC-DC converter controllers into production.
- Experience developing reusable analog IP and improving design methodologies across multiple products.
