Data Architect
The Role
We are building our enterprise data platform from the ground up and are looking for a Data Architect to lead its design and delivery. This is a hands-on, greenfield leadership role reporting directly to the CTO. You will define the architecture, make technology decisions, build the foundation, and drive outcomes while partnering closely with the Data Engineering team.
The platform will support business analytics, operational reporting, and AI-driven capabilities across multiple markets and enterprise clients. A key objective is enabling secure AI access to trusted enterprise data through APIs and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the enterprise data platform architecture, including Data Lake, Lakehouse, semantic layers, and data consumption frameworks.
- Design and oversee batch, streaming, and CDC-based data pipelines with strong orchestration, monitoring, and reliability.
- Build scalable data models across orders, inventory, fulfillment, logistics, marketplaces, billing, and platform performance.
- Establish governed KPI definitions, dashboards, and self-service analytics capabilities.
- Enable secure AI data consumption through APIs and MCP with proper access controls and tenant isolation.
- Implement data governance, quality, lineage, compliance, and PII/privacy controls.
- Ensure platform reliability through monitoring, SLAs, incident management, and operational runbooks.
Success Measures
First 90 Days
- Assess the existing data landscape and deliver an enterprise architecture roadmap.
- Launch the first production data pipeline and priority BI dashboard.
- Define KPI models for key business domains and deliver the first MCP-enabled AI data capability.
Within 6–12 Months
- Production-ready data platform with automated pipelines for priority datasets.
- Trusted business models and KPI definitions adopted across the organization.
- Dashboards replacing manual reporting processes.
- Secure AI data access architecture operational with initial MCP capabilities.
- Established governance, monitoring, lineage, quality, and cost management practices.
Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or data architecture with proven architecture ownership.
Strong experience building enterprise Data Lake, Data Warehouse, or Lakehouse platforms.
Expertise in SQL, data modeling, pipeline architecture, and cloud platforms (preferably AWS).
Experience with data governance, data quality, lineage, compliance, PII protection, and privacy controls.
Hands-on ability to validate designs and contribute during the early build phase while defining scalable standards.
Experience in eCommerce, logistics, marketplace, or B2B SaaS environments is highly preferred.
Nice to Have
Experience with MCP, LLM/AI integrations, RAG, semantic layers, or secure enterprise data access for AI systems.
