What the day will look like
As the lead for Data Governance Engagement and Adoption, you will serve as a senior member of Aon’s Central Data Office. You will be responsible for promoting the enterprise oversight of Aon’s key data assets. You will treat business and functional stakeholders as clients of the Central Data Office, connecting their requirements with practical governance capabilities that enable trusted, well-managed and appropriately reused data.
You will lead engagement across global business areas. You will collaborate with Data Owners, Stewards, data asset teams, and capability leads. Together, you will embed governance throughout the data asset lifecycle. Your key responsibilities will include:
Acting as the primary data governance contact for assigned strategic data assets and business areas, building trusted relationships with Data Owners, senior business leaders, technology partners and control functions.
Driving the adoption of Aon’s Data Ownership Model and its metadata, data quality, data access and data-sharing capabilities, helping stakeholders understand and use the full range of services available through the Central Data Office.
Owning the end-to-end operationalisation of Strategic Data Assets into the SDA Hub following triage, enabling business teams to transition to a sustainable, self-service operating model.
Connecting business partners to Data Governance Operations, the SDA Hub, capability subject-matter experts, and other Central Data Office leads, ensuring needs are clearly articulated, prioritised, and translated into actionable work.
Partnering with IT, risk management, data protection, and security teams to align data asset operations, controls, access and sharing practices with policy and regulatory requirements while enabling appropriate business use of data.
Advising major programmes and projects on governance requirements, contributing to solution design, delivery estimates, implementation plans, dependency management and risk mitigation.
Supporting metadata curation by helping teams maintain business glossaries, data definitions, lineage and classifications that improve data discovery, understanding and reuse.
Enabling the design, adoption, monitoring and escalation of data quality rules and controls for critical data, including the production of leadership insights on data quality trends and governance maturity.
Leading governance forums and working groups, preparing decision materials, documenting outcomes and ensuring agreed actions are completed.
Leading, mentoring and developing colleagues through direct or matrix leadership, while contributing lessons learned and external good practice to Aon’s governance frameworks, processes and toolkits.
How this opportunity is different
This is a senior, globally facing role with a direct influence on how Aon owns, understands, protects and uses its strategic data assets. Rather than focusing on governance policy in isolation, you will turn governance requirements into practical capabilities and sustainable ways of working.
You will have the opportunity to shape and drive the adoption of core data governance capabilities at enterprise scale, including ownership, metadata, data quality, access and sharing. The role provides significant exposure to senior stakeholders across business, technology, risk, privacy, security and other control functions.
You will engage with data governance, custodians, Data Leads, data asset teams, the SDA Hub, and Central Data Office leads. You link business needs to specialist support to deliver measurable outcomes. You will also build capability in others, helping teams move towards greater accountability, effective self-service and the appropriate reuse of trusted data.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
Typically, five or more years of relevant experience leading all aspects of data policies, data administration, or ensuring data integrity in a large, complex organisation is encouraged.
Strong knowledge of data governance and data quality practices, including responsibility for data assets, metadata, business glossaries, definitions, lineage, classification, controls, access and sharing. Experience with platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Databricks Unity Catalog, Informatica or comparable technologies is valuable.
A proven track record as a subject-matter expert and trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, with the communication skills to explain complex governance concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences and influence alignment across functions, regions and competing priorities.
Experience leading or supporting complex, large-scale programmes, including solution design, prioritisation, delivery planning, dependency handling and risk management. Experience in financial services, insurance or another highly regulated industry is strongly preferred.
Experience managing personnel through both direct oversight and collaborative structures, including coaching, mentoring, and performance support. DAMA, DCAM or another recognised data governance, data management or data quality certification would be advantageous.
