Data Scientist, Group Audit

Sydney, Australia Hybrid Full-time

Create your best future and join Westpac as a Data Scientist, Group Audit.

What’s the role?

As a Data Scientist within Group Audit, you’ll join the Data Centre of Excellence Advanced Analytics team, helping grow how we use advanced analytics, automation and artificial intelligence across audit and assurance. This is a hands-on individual contributor role, with no people leadership responsibilities.

You’ll design and deliver advanced analytics and production-grade artificial intelligence solutions, identify opportunities to automate audit activities, and use data to uncover emerging risks, control weaknesses and meaningful business insights.

You’ll work closely with audit teams and specialists across Technology, Risk and Compliance, applying tools such as Python, SQL, Alteryx and Microsoft Copilot to solve real business problems.

You’ll also contribute to Westpac’s advanced analytics and artificial intelligence roadmap, helping build capability and share knowledge across Group Audit.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Sydney with hybrid working arrangements available.

What do I need?

Around 3–5 years’ practical data science experience, ideally within financial services, audit, assurance or risk environments

Strong hands-on experience applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, Generative AI, automation or predictive analytics to solve business problems

Strong Python and SQL capability, including experience working with complex structured and unstructured data

Experience designing, building or productionising AI and Generative AI solutions, including model pipelines, Large Language Model integration, monitoring or lifecycle management

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently investigate problems and translate technical outputs into clear business insights

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and practical approach to delivering solutions

Experience with Azure, Snowflake, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Alteryx, AI agents or Machine Learning Operations is highly regarded.
