One of Apple’s R&D groups is seeking a Mechatronics Controls Engineer to develop, prototype, and validate complex, next-generation electro-mechanical-sensor driven systems. This engineer will develop custom sensor calibration, signal processing, estimation, and controls algorithms for a host of product concepts. Typical work includes real-world modeling, simulation, machine learned and traditional algorithms, embedded implementation, and testing in the real world. We are looking for a hands-on creative individual eager to push performance boundaries on cutting-edge hardware.
In this role you will partner with other mechanical, electrical, control, embedded FW, and AIML resources to develop end-to-end mechatronics experiences.
Build robust state estimation, sensor fusion, and controls algorithms
Develop extensive and scalable testing, tuning and evaluation systems for these algorithms
Perform simulation and analysis to support use cases and requirements/specs
Maintain a positive relationship with internal customers, hardware/software teams, and external vendors
Drive sw/hw algs/sensor/controls integration and tuning on a host of platforms
Develop test/validation plans and lead execution of these activities
Consult on other applications of estimation, sensors, simulation, and controls design
MS in Engineering, Robotics, or CS
8+ years of related experience and skilled in the of development, theory, design, modeling, and implementation of control systems
Deep understanding of kinematics, dynamics and equations of motion for dynamic systems.
Experience in hardware/software integration and physical system debugging
Proficient in C/C++ and Python or MATLAB
Experience with modern software development workflows, version control (e.g., Git), and genAI developer productivity tools (e.g., Claude)
PhD in Engineering, Robotics or CS
Strong knowledge in classical/modern control theory, robotics, and digital signal processing
Experience with rotary sensing (encoders), inertial measurement systems, and inertial state propagation
