Join a team of passionate and creative engineers dedicated to building technologies that shape the future. One of Apple’s R&D groups is seeking a Robotics Controls Engineer to develop, prototype, and validate complex, next-generation systems. In this role, you will build capabilities to assess the performance of system prototypes and sub-components, developing novel methods, instrumentation, and testing software across mechanisms, sensors, and electronics. We are looking for hands-on, creative individuals eager to push performance boundaries on cutting-edge hardware.
In this role you will partner with robotics and control algorithm developers, mechanical engineers, and power electronics teams to prototype, test, and validate custom control systems for unique applications.
Prototype, bring-up, debug and characterize novel control techniques on physical hardware
Perform rapid integration, tuning, calibration and testing of complex robotic prototypes
Drive root-cause failure analysis and cross-functional problem solving
Communicate technical progress and data-driven insights through documentation and presentations
MS or PhD in Engineering plus 3+ years of relevant industry experience
Strong knowledge in classical/modern control theory, robotics, and digital signal processing
Deep domain expertise in sensor integration and characterization, with an emphasis on IMUs
Experience in hardware/software integration, bring-up, and physical system debugging
Proficient in C/C++ and Python or MATLAB
Experience with modern software development workflows, version control (e.g., Git), and genAI developer productivity tools (e.g., Claude)
Experience with rapid prototyping using off-the-shelf sensors and MCUs
Experience with embedded systems testing, analysis and bring-up
Strong background in experimental data analysis, system telemetry, and physical system introspection
Background in Field Oriented Control (FOC) for motor drives and actuators
Familiarity with hardware communication buses and protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, UART, SPI, I2C, BiSS)
