Job Overview: APTIM is seeking a Project Environmental Data Analyst that will work exclusively on a Key Client National Account to manage client and vendor data sets presented in various formats and turn them into reliable datasets, project databases, and useful Power BI Dashboards. The Environmental Data Analyst will work with project managers and technical specialists to understand reporting needs, recommend meaningful metrics and trend analyses, evaluate data workflows, and independently build and maintain tools from initial requirements through ongoing use.
The successful candidate will have advanced Microsoft Excel and Power BI skills, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to deliver accurate, understandable information that supports client reporting and project decisions. Environmental data and AI experience are valued but are not required. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities: Partner with project managers and technical specialists to define reporting objectives, identify relevant metrics and trends, and translate project questions into practical data tools and dashboards.
Demonstrate expertise in data management, automation, and interactive business intelligence to transform multiple streams of raw data into automated reporting formats. Combine, clean, standardize, and reconcile data across multiple Microsoft Excel workbooks, client data exports, vendor reports, and project databases; resolve inconsistent identifiers, formats, dates, units, duplicate records, and missing information. Analyze datasets across sites, reporting periods, and data sources to identify trends, discrepancies, exceptions, and opportunities for improvement; explain findings and data limitations to the project team.
Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards, including Power Query transformations, data models, relationships, DAX measures, filters, and clear visualizations tailored to client needs. Evaluate existing data collection and reporting workflows; develop repeatable Excel and Power Query processes that reduce manual work and improve consistency and timeliness. Build and maintain project databases and structured datasets, including tables, unique identifiers, relationships, validation rules, and data dictionaries that support reliable analysis and reporting.
Validate calculations and dashboard results against source records; document reconciliation checks, assumptions, and unresolved exceptions, and coordinate technical interpretation with environmental specialists. Own ongoing tool maintenance, including data refreshes, troubleshooting, updates, and change testing to ensure accuracy. Manage assigned data deliverables across the program’s datasets, estimate effort, meet agreed schedules, and communicate priorities and issues with limited day-to-day supervision.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, information systems, computer science, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analysis, data management, and support of tools used by project teams or clients. Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, lookup functions, PivotTables, data validation, Power Query, and combining and reconciling data across workbooks. Demonstrated Power BI development experience including data preparation, relational modeling, DAX calculations, report design, publishing, and maintaining refresh processes in Power BI Service.
Ability to translate loosely defined reporting needs into working solutions, organize concurrent assignments, document methods, and explain results clearly to nontechnical users. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with environmental or EHS data, such as hazardous waste, stormwater, inspection findings, compliance tracking, or sustainability metrics; experience supporting consulting or client project delivery. SQL querying skills and experience with database platforms or environmental data management systems.
Experience with Power Automate, VBA, Python, or similar tools to automate data preparation and reporting. Project management experience, including coordinating with cross-functional teams, managing schedules and deliverables, communicating risks and priorities, and supporting account managers to deliver successful client project execution. Experience applying AI tools to data extraction, reconciliation, analysis, or workflow automation, with validation of outputs and appropriate protection of client information.
