Overview
The Manager, Business Intelligence will lead the design and delivery of scalable BI solutions for GBS Digital Delivery, with primary accountability for robust data modelling, trusted reporting, and actionable insight. The role combines hands-on technical leadership in SQL, semantic and dimensional modelling, Power BI, data quality, and governance with mentoring of analysts and limited day-to-day people-management responsibilities for a small team.
The Manager will establish modelling and reporting standards, review solution quality, allocate work, support development objectives, and partner with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Product Owners, Data Engineers, and business leaders to improve the reliability and business value of critical data assets.
How you'll make an impact
Responsibilities
BI Strategy and Delivery Leadership: Translate business priorities into a practical BI roadmap; lead the design, development, validation, release, and ongoing support of dashboards, semantic models, management information,
KPI frameworks, and analytical products.
Data Modelling and Architecture: Design and govern dimensional, relational, and semantic data models, including facts, dimensions, star schemas, measures, hierarchies, relationships, calculation logic, naming standards, and reusable datasets that support scalable self-service analytics.
SQL and Data Engineering Collaboration: Write and review complex SQL; define transformation and integration requirements; and work with Data Engineers to optimise source-to-report pipelines, model performance, refresh reliability, and data availability.
Data Quality and Model Assurance: Establish validation and reconciliation controls for data models and BI outputs; investigate anomalies and defects; lead root cause analysis; and ensure completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, uniqueness, and validity.
Reporting, Insight and Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with senior business and CDO stakeholders to define KPIs, clarify requirements, communicate insights, manage expectations, and ensure BI products support measurable business decisions.
Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Mentor analysts through design reviews, pair problem-solving, coaching, knowledge sharing, and feedback; set standards for SQL, DAX, modelling, visualisation, documentation, testing, and deployment.
Small-Team People Management: Provide light-touch supervision for a small BI team, including work allocation, priority setting, regular check-ins, objective setting, development support, leave and capacity coordination, and timely escalation of formal people matters.
Governance, Documentation and Continuous Improvement: Maintain model documentation, lineage, business definitions, data dictionaries, SOPs, release records, and control evidence; promote reusable assets, automation, governed self-service BI, and continuous improvement.
