Australian Retirement Trust Finance/FinTech

Manager - Regulatory Engagement and Governance

Brisbane, Australia Hybrid Full-time

We’re all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too. As a Manager, Engagement and Governance, you’ll lead the team responsible for managing and enhancing our approach to regulatory enquiries, notices and information requests.

You’ll oversee timely, accurate and consistent engagement with regulators including APRA, ASIC and AUSTRAC. Working across Risk, Investments, Member Services, Finance and other business areas, you’ll bring people together to coordinate responses, strengthen governance and support positive regulatory relationships.

This is an opportunity to shape how regulatory engagement is managed across Australian Retirement Trust. You’ll improve workflows, documentation and reporting, while building the capability of your team and fostering a proactive risk and compliance culture.

This role is a permanent opportunity and is based in Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne.

Day to day, you'll

  • Lead and oversee the Regulatory Engagement and Governance team, creating a connected, capable and high-performing environment.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end response to regulatory notices, data requests and formal enquiries from APRA, ASIC, AUSTRAC and other relevant bodies.
  • Act as a central liaison point to support clear, consistent and professional communication with regulators.
  • Partner with internal subject matter experts to gather, review and validate information for regulatory responses.
  • Maintain oversight of the regulatory engagement register, including deadlines, progress, approvals and outcomes.
  • Prepare clear briefing materials and reports for senior management and Boards.
  • Review and improve workflows to increase the efficiency, accountability and quality of regulatory response activities.
  • Develop consistent procedures, templates, guidance materials and tools for teams involved in regulatory engagement.
  • Identify opportunities to use technology and automation to simplify processes and strengthen controls.
  • Monitor and report on performance measures, including response timeliness and quality assurance outcomes.
  • Ensure regulatory responses are appropriately reviewed, approved, documented and retained.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing evidence of regulatory engagement and control effectiveness.
  • Coach, mentor and motivate team members, supporting their performance and ongoing development.
  • Build productive working relationships across the organisation and promote knowledge sharing.
  • Foster a strong risk culture and contribute to continuous improvement across the broader organisation.
  • It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance or a related discipline, or bring significant regulatory engagement experience within financial services.
  • Your knowledge of superannuation legislation includes the SIS Act, Corporations Act and relevant APRA prudential standards and ASIC regulatory guides.
  • You’ll bring experience managing regulatory enquiries, information requests, notices or comparable regulatory engagement activities.
  • You’re an experienced people leader who can coach, motivate and build the capability of a specialist team.
  • You have strong analytical skills and can navigate complex information, competing priorities and firm deadlines.
  • Your written communication skills enable you to prepare accurate regulatory responses, executive briefings and governance reports.
  • You’ll be confident building productive relationships with senior leaders, subject matter experts and external stakeholders.
  • You’re experienced in strengthening governance, controls, workflows and supporting documentation.
  • You bring an improvement mindset and can identify practical opportunities to use technology and automation.
  • Your approach is adaptable, open-minded and grounded in continuous learning.
  • You’ll demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality outcomes.
  • You’re committed to creating an inclusive, collaborative and accountable team culture.
