Python Technical Lead

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Python Technical Lead to independently own the technical direction and delivery of a product or module, from requirements and design through production and ongoing improvement. You will make technical decisions, lead engineering execution, and contribute production code while guiding other engineers toward delivering complete, reliable capabilities.

Your core expertise will be in Python backend development, complemented by practical experience building AI-agent capabilities and the ability to lead delivery across user interfaces, databases, and cloud services.

You will partner with Product to agree on priorities and outcomes, then own the technical approach and delivery plan. You will have the autonomy to move your area forward, working with UX, QA, architects, and engineering colleagues to manage dependencies and make decisions within shared platform standards.

What You’ll Do

Own a product or module end to end. Understand its business workflows and customer needs, clarify requirements, and lead its technical lifecycle. Stay accountable for what ships, how it operates in production, and how it evolves to meet user needs.

Lead technical planning and delivery. Translate agreed priorities into designs, development tasks, estimates, and milestones. Coordinate engineering contributions, resolve blockers, and communicate progress, dependencies, and risks early. Make pragmatic trade-offs and escalate decisions that affect broader commitments or platform boundaries.

Build and evolve Python services. Develop APIs, business logic, integrations, calculation workflows, and background processing using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL. Write production code, including complex features and critical components. Establish clear boundaries and reusable patterns while balancing delivery speed, maintainability, and performance.

Deliver complete user experiences. Work with frontend engineers and UX so that Angular interfaces and backend services arrive as one working capability. Review and contribute frontend code where needed, troubleshoot workflows across the stack, and follow shared component, accessibility, and design standards.

Build AI capabilities that users can trust. Develop agents that help users understand information, investigate exceptions, and perform authorized actions. Connect them to validated business services through APIs and tools. Incorporate grounding, evaluation, permission checks, audit trails, and human approval for consequential changes.

Set the quality bar and own operational reliability. Establish effective code reviews, automated tests, and release criteria. Protect critical business behavior through regression testing and agreed validation standards. Address performance across Python code, SQL, caching, and background workloads, and ensure secure data access, tenant isolation, useful diagnostics, and root-cause resolution of production issues.

Lead and develop engineers. Delegate with clear expectations, provide actionable feedback, and mentor through code reviews and pair programming. Document important decisions, build shared knowledge, and help engineers take greater ownership without creating unnecessary complexity or reliance on individual team members.

Improve how software is delivered. Use AI-assisted development tools to support implementation, testing, documentation, and investigation. Establish practices that improve delivery while retaining engineering accountability for correctness, maintainability, security, and review.

What We’re Looking For

7+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years of production Python development, with demonstrated experience leading technical delivery and mentoring engineers.

A track record of owning a product, module, or substantial engineering initiative from requirements through production, coordinating contributors and making sound technical decisions.

Strong modern Python skills, including typing, testing, debugging, and profiling, with an understanding of asynchronous programming and concurrency. Hands-on experience with FastAPI and Pydantic, or comparable frameworks.

Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including data modeling, query optimization, indexing, transactions, and data integrity. Experience designing APIs and background workflows with robust error handling, retries, idempotency, and backward compatibility.

Practical experience building and evaluating LLM-powered applications or AI-agent workflows, including tool calling, grounded responses, and secure integration with business systems.

Working knowledge of TypeScript and modern frontend development, sufficient to guide implementation, review UI work, and diagnose problems across the interface, API, and database.

Experience delivering and supporting cloud-hosted applications using AWS, Docker, CI/CD, automated testing, and production monitoring, with a solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure application design.

Clear communication and sound judgment under ambiguity. Ability to turn business requirements into achievable plans, explain technical trade-offs, prioritize effectively, and raise risks early.

Nice to Have

Hands-on Angular experience, including shared component libraries, accessible interfaces, and Playwright end-to-end testing.

Production deployment experience with AI agents or LLM-powered applications. Familiarity with technologies such as LangGraph, Amazon Bedrock, and Model Context Protocol (MCP), alongside agent evaluation and observability.

Experience with AWS ECS/Fargate, Step Functions, RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, and Redis/Valkey, as well as Python testing and static-analysis tooling.

Experience with supply chain planning, forecasting, inventory optimization, or other data-intensive enterprise software. Experience modernizing legacy systems and validating critical business behavior is also valuable.
