We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It Begins at Bendigo Bank

As we continue to mature our risk ecosystem and deliver on our strategic roadmap, our Divisional Chief Risk Officer (CRO) teams within Group Risk are expanding. We are seeking experienced, high-calibre risk leaders at the Senior Manager level to provide independent second-line oversight, evidence-based challenges, and strategic advisory across our vital enterprise portfolios.

About the Opportunities

We are seeking technically grounded, experienced risk leaders at the Senior Manager level to provide independent second-line oversight, evidence-based challenge, and strategic advisory. Operating with substantial professional discretion and technical credibility, you will act as a trusted partner to Executive and Senior Leadership Teams, ensuring material business changes and strategic ambitions are executed safely, sustainably, and within Board risk appetite.

With several appointments commencing now and into the first quarter of 2027, these roles represent critical opportunities to join a proactive risk culture focused on doing what's right for our customers and communities. Operating under Bendigo Bank’s Line 2 Risk Management Framework, you will aligned to a portfolio, which you can specify as your preferred option during the application process.

What You’ll Do (Core Accountabilities)

Independent 2LoA Challenge & Oversight: Deliver constructive, evidence-based second-line challenge to First Line (1LoA) leaders including risk identification, control effectiveness, risk and control quality and incident/breach root-cause remediations.

Technical NFR Expertise: Act as a technical risk specialist in Non-Financial Risk (NFR), driving robust, end-to-end Risk Profile Assessments (RPAs), evaluating emerging exposures, and ensuring control effectiveness.

Executive & Governance Reporting: Synthesise complex non-financial risk data to draft high-impact risk commentary and Line 2 assessments for Divisional Risk Committees, Executive submissions, and Board-level papers.

End-to-End Assurance & Deep Dives: Lead the design and execution of targeted Line 2 reviews and thematic deep dives in accordance with the annual divisional assurance plan, monitoring the sustainable closure of remediation actions.

Risk Culture & Capability Uplift: Lead through influence as a senior individual contributor, actively coaching First Line partners to foster an authentic 'speak up' culture, proactive risk ownership, and commercial, balanced decision-making.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

We are seeking seasoned second-line risk professionals who combine technical risk mastery with commercial pragmatism and persuasive stakeholder engagement:

Deep Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Technical Specialty: Substantial senior-level experience in banking or financial services, with advanced expertise in Non-Financial Risk frameworks. Proven track record challenging and/or leading robust end-to-end Risk Profile Assessments (RPAs) and control evaluations.

Strong Business Acumen & Risk Forum Presence: Proven commercial acumen with a pragmatic, influential mindset to balance regulatory requirements with business priorities. Demonstrated experience preparing high-impact papers and presenting or advising at executive risk committees and governance forums.

Robust Second-Line Track Record: Demonstrated ability to provide formal, constructive challenge to senior leadership and translate complex regulatory frameworks into practical operational solutions.

Analytical & CriticalThinking: Strong diagnostic capabilities to dissect operational processes, identify systemic vulnerabilities, and recommend balanced, risk-proportionate outcomes.

Executive Influencing & Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of authoring concise, C-suite/Board-ready papers and influencing senior stakeholders without direct reporting authority.

Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline essential. Relevant industry certifications or postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.
