We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.
It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.
About the Role
Come and be part of our specialized Financial Crime & Fraud Operations (FC&FO) team within Group Risk.
As regulatory obligations and criminal typologies grow more complex, maintaining robust, data-driven financial crime surveillance is essential to safeguarding our customers, the bank, and Australia's broader financial ecosystem. We are looking for an experienced, technically astute, and people-focused leader to take on the role of Manager, FC&FO Data & Analytics (AML)
Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Crime & Fraud Detection & Analytics, you will lead a dedicated team of analytics and detection specialists responsible for the end-to-end management, rule tuning, and continuous optimization of our financial crime monitoring architecture. You will play a central role in translating risk appetite and regulatory requirements into high-performing surveillance models and alert mechanisms.
If you are an experienced analytics manager with a passion for financial crime detection, modern data platforms, and team leadership, this is a prime opportunity to drive substantial impact across the bank.
In this role, you’ll make an impact by
Leading a High-Performing Analytics Team: Inspire, coach, and develop a technical team of financial crime analytics specialists, cultivating a culture of curiosity, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Optimising Detection & Screening Systems: Oversee the operational configuration, scenario tuning, and rule maintenance across core AML transaction monitoring, customer screening, and payment screening systems—ensuring high detection efficacy while maintaining sustainable operational alert volumes.
Strengthening Regulatory Reporting Governance: Support regulatory compliance by ensuring transaction monitoring and surveillance systems effectively identify reportable events, including Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) and Threshold Transaction Reports (TTRs).
Designing Actionable Data Insights: Develop data-driven operational reporting, risk dashboards, and performance metrics to provide transparency and inform decision-making across Financial Crime Operations and Group Risk leadership.
Driving Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with Financial Crime Risk (2LoD), Financial Crime Operations (investigations), Technology, Enterprise Data, and external software vendors to continuously calibrate detection rules against emerging typologies.
Delivering Analytics Transformation: Lead analytics-led change initiatives, including platform upgrades, rule deployments, data pipeline enhancements, and testing in support of the bank's broader Financial Crime Risk Strategy.
What you’ll bring to the role
Essential
Proven Analytical Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical analytics professionals within financial services or complex regulated environments.
Deep AML/CTF & Sanctions Expertise: In-depth knowledge of financial crime detection mechanisms, including transaction monitoring typologies, customer risk assessment models, and list/payment screening frameworks.
Strong Surveillance Systems Background: Hands-on experience managing and tuning established enterprise financial crime platforms (e.g., BAE Systems NetReveal or equivalent transaction monitoring and sanctions screening engines).
Technical & Data Proficiency: Practical proficiency working with relational databases, large-scale data environments, and analytical toolsets (e.g., SQL, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Python, and modern data visualization platforms).
Stakeholder Management & Advisory: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to bridge technical data models and operational workflows, articulating complex surveillance concepts clearly to executive and risk stakeholders.
Operational Risk & Governance Mindset: Strong understanding of AUSTRAC regulatory obligations and a disciplined approach to change governance, model tuning documentation, and control effectiveness.
Highly Desirable
Tertiary qualifications in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Business, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
Recognised financial crime industry accreditations (e.g., ACAMS, AFCS).
