Boq Finance/FinTech

Senior Analyst, Financial Crime Change, Systems & Data

Brisbane, Australia In person Full-time

Location: Brisbane/Melbourne/Sydney

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Financial Crime Operations team in a newly created role, helping deliver meaningful change across financial crime systems, data and analytics. As a Senior Analyst, Financial Crime Change, Systems and Data you’ll work across areas including AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scams, turning complex operational, risk and regulatory needs into clear requirements, practical solutions and sustainable outcomes.

You’ll be involved throughout the delivery lifecycle, from discovery and problem definition through to analysis, design, testing, implementation and transition into BAU. Depending on the workstream, you may be investigating system or control gaps, analysing complex datasets, supporting remediation activity, defining requirements or validating that an implemented change is working as intended.

Using SQL and other analytical tools, you’ll interrogate and reconcile financial crime data, investigate data-quality issues and identify affected populations, trends and potential control weaknesses. Experience with Python or a comparable analytical language will be valued, particularly where it can support automation, reproducible analysis and more efficient delivery.

Strong stakeholder engagement will be central to your success. You’ll work closely with teams across Financial Crime, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Data, Technology, Product and Payments, as well as external vendors and service providers. You’ll bring people together, constructively challenge where needed and communicate complex findings in a way that supports clear decisions and action.

While this role has no direct reports, you’ll take ownership of defined workstreams and have the opportunity to provide specialist guidance, share knowledge and support less-experienced analysts through peer review and practical coaching.

About you

You - our preferred candidate will bring strong experience in financial crime, business analysis, systems change, data analytics, data quality or remediation, ideally gained within banking or another complex regulated environment. You may have worked across areas such as AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud, scams, KYC/CDD, transaction monitoring, screening, regulatory reporting or case management.

You’re comfortable working with complex data and can use SQL to investigate issues, test assumptions and develop clear, evidence-based findings. You’ll also understand how to translate operational, risk and regulatory needs into well-defined business, system, data and control requirements. Experience with Python, Power BI, Excel or similar analytical and reporting tools would be highly regarded.

You’ll have experience supporting change from initial discovery through to testing and implementation, including developing requirements, process maps, user stories, acceptance criteria and test cases. You understand the importance of traceability, quality assurance and maintaining clear evidence of assumptions, decisions, results and limitations.

Most importantly, you’re curious, adaptable and comfortable working through ambiguity. You enjoy getting into the detail, asking thoughtful questions and finding the root cause of complex problems, while still keeping sight of the broader risk, regulatory and customer outcomes.

You’ll be collaborative and accountable in your approach, with the confidence to raise concerns, challenge constructively and communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels. If this sounds like you - we would love to hear from you!
