Who We Are
Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we help clients with total transformation-inspiring complex change, enabling organizations to grow, building competitive advantage, and driving bottom-line impact.
To succeed, organizations must blend digital and human capabilities. Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives to spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting along with technology and design, corporate and digital ventures—and business purpose. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive.
What You'll Do
Design Studios is BCG’s in-house creative agency: a global, multidisciplinary team of design strategists, creative leaders, and digital experts. We partner with consultants and clients to turn complex ideas into compelling visual stories, using design, technology, and media to take BCG’s work to the next level.
As a Regional Creative Manager in our Chicago office, you will be the creative leader that BCG case teams, partners, and project leaders across Chicago and the Midwest turn to. You will shape the creative vision for their work, advise on the right approach, and scope projects across presentations, high-value proposals, customer journeys, and videos. You will understand the creative process from first brief to final delivery, and you will use that knowledge to raise the quality of what leaves the studio and set clear expectations for the people who ask for it.
This is an advisory role, not an operations role. You will work alongside project managers, creative leads, and subject matter experts who run the day-to-day production, and you will bring applied AI into how the work is conceived and scoped. You will also build relationships and a network across the region, so that case teams know Design Studios and come to you early. You will report to the Senior Regional Creative Manager and partner with the regional Strategy team on go-to-market efforts.
Your time will split roughly as follows: 50% creative leadership and advisory, 30% relationship-building with case teams, and 20% networking and growing awareness of Design Studios.
YOU’RE GOOD AT
- Creative leadership and advisory
- Shaping creative direction: translating a business goal or loose brief into a clear creative concept and approach.
- Scoping creative work with realistic timelines, formats, and effort, and setting expectations with clients up front.
- Holding the line on quality: reviewing work from first draft to final delivery, giving sharp feedback, and raising the bar across formats.
- Applying AI to the creative process, from ideation and research to production, and knowing where it adds value and where it does not.
- Making fast, sound calls on your own. You trust your judgment and move quickly in a high-expectation environment.
- Coaching designers and peers informally on creative thinking and craft, without formal line management.
- Relationships and influence
- Building trusted relationships quickly with busy case teams, and showing your value from the first conversation.
- Advising senior stakeholders with confidence, in person and on screen, and presenting ideas with credibility.
- Managing client expectations, keeping feedback loops open, and making sure case teams have a great experience.
- Thinking commercially: connecting creative choices to the business outcome a team is trying to reach.
- Networking and growth
- Networking with energy and curiosity: you ask about other people’s roles, learn what drives their work, and find ways to help.
- Working with the regional Strategy team to promote Design Studios’ offerings and support go-to-market initiatives.
- Keeping client and project details current in a CRM tool.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- First 6 months: a firm understanding of BCG, how Design Studios works, and the value creative brings inside a consultancy.
- By 12 months: established relationships with case teams, active involvement in creative projects alongside them, and growing influence on a global team.
- We measure success by the quality of the client experience and your influence with case teams, not by a sales number.
What You'll Bring
- 6 to 10 years of experience in a creative leadership role at a creative or marketing agency, an in-house creative team, or a consultancy. Agency or in-house creative experience is a plus.
- Experience building strong client relationships, ideally in account management or creative management.
- Hands-on experience scoping creative work and a deep understanding of the creative process from start to finish.
- A strong practice in applying AI to creative work. This is a must-have.
- Executive presence, strong commercial judgment, and the confidence to influence direction.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in design, communications, business, marketing, or a related field.
- A portfolio is welcome, but your track record matters more. Hands-on proficiency in design tools is not required.
- Experience working in fast-paced, matrixed, or global environments.
- Excellent English communication skills, written and spoken.
- Ability to travel about 30% and to work in the Chicago office two days a week.
Who You'll Work With
BCG case teams, partners, and project leaders across the Midwest, along with Design Studios project managers, creative leads, designers, and video producers around the world. You will report to the Senior Regional Creative Manager.
