About Boxbar Tech

Boxbar Tech is a high-growth technology business transforming how drinks are served in venues, stadiums, arenas, events and hospitality environments. Our automated self-service drinks technology helps partners improve service speed, reduce queues and deliver a better customer experience.

We operate at the intersection of technology, hospitality, events, operations and manufacturing. We design, build, deploy and support physical technology in live environments, with opportunities across the UK and internationally.

About the role

As Finance Director, you will own the financial leadership of Boxbar Tech and help turn ambitious growth plans into commercially sound, adequately funded execution. Working closely with the CEO, Advisory Board and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide clear insight into performance, cash, risk and investment priorities.

You will combine strategic leadership with practical ownership of a developing finance function. The role brings together reporting and controls, cash and working capital, financial planning, investor engagement and the financial implications of international expansion.

Key responsibilities

  • Financial strategy and commercial performance
  • Translate the growth strategy into integrated budgets, forecasts and longer-term financial plans, with clear assumptions and scenario analysis.
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Product, Engineering and Client Success to improve margins, cost control and the quality of commercial decisions.
  • Assess pricing, customer and venue economics, manufacturing and deployment costs, capital expenditure and investment proposals, explaining their impact on profit and cash.
  • Cash funding and investor relationships
  • Own cash forecasting and liquidity planning, maintaining an integrated model of short- and medium-term cash needs and longer-term funding requirements.
  • Improve working capital through effective debtor, creditor and inventory management, balancing cash discipline with customer and supplier relationships.
  • Lead the finance workstream for equity fundraising and engagement with potential investors, including private equity firms, in collaboration with the CEO and external advisers.
  • Prepare credible financial models, investor information and due diligence materials; maintain strong relationships with investors, banks, funders and other key stakeholders.
  • Reporting governance and financial control
  • Own timely, reliable management accounts, board reporting and a relevant KPI dashboard, with clear commentary on variances, risks and required actions.
  • Maintain proportionate financial controls, approval limits, reconciliations and reporting processes that support growth and protect company assets.
  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including payables, receivables, treasury and payroll-related financial controls, with appropriate delegation.
  • Coordinate statutory reporting, tax compliance, year-end work and audit requirements where applicable, using external advisers effectively.
  • International expansion and finance capability
  • Lead the international tax strategy workstream with specialist advisers, assessing the implications of operating structures, intercompany arrangements and expansion into new markets.
  • Develop appropriate reporting, cash visibility and financial controls across countries, including foreign currency and intercompany exposures where relevant.
  • Lead and develop the finance team, clarify responsibilities and build capacity as the business grows.
  • Improve finance systems, data quality and processes, reducing manual work and ensuring reporting and models remain accurate and maintainable.

About you

You are a commercially minded finance leader who enjoys building a scale-up business. You can challenge assumptions constructively, explain financial complexity in plain language and move from a strategic discussion to the detail needed to deliver it. You bring sound judgement, personal integrity and a collaborative approach to leadership.

Key skills and experience

Essential

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent international qualification.
  • Proven senior finance leadership in a growing SME, scale-up or similarly entrepreneurial business, with ownership of the finance function.
  • Strong cash management, working capital and integrated financial modelling skills, including scenario analysis and funding requirements.
  • Experience supporting or leading a capital raise, investor process or significant financing transaction, with confidence presenting forecasts and answering scrutiny.
  • Strong management reporting, financial control, budgeting and forecasting experience, with the ability to turn analysis into commercial action.
  • Experience working with CEOs, boards or investors and influencing non-finance leaders.
  • Experience leading and developing a finance team, improving systems and maintaining practical day-to-day oversight.
  • Ability to coordinate international financial and tax matters with specialist advisers; you do not need to be a tax specialist in every jurisdiction.
  • Experience in technology, physical products, manufacturing, equipment deployment or other operationally complex businesses.
  • Experience assessing inventory, capital assets, product or project costing, contract margins and recurring revenue where relevant.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability, with experience improving accounting, reporting or ERP systems.
  • Private equity, growth investment or transaction due diligence experience.

Desirable

  • Experience of international expansion, multi-country reporting or businesses operating across multiple sites.
  • Behavioural expectations
  • We’re dependable: deliver accurate information, honour commitments and raise cash or control risks early.
  • We’re innovative: improve how finance supports decisions and build processes that can scale.
  • We are partners: work alongside colleagues, customers, suppliers and advisers with respect, clarity and constructive challenge.

What success looks like

Specific targets will be agreed with the CEO after reviewing the starting position. Early priorities are continuity, cash visibility and a credible plan for the next stage of growth.

Why join Boxbar

You will have direct influence over how an ambitious technology business grows, invests and expands internationally. This is an opportunity to build on an established financial foundation, work closely with the leadership team and see the effect of your decisions across the business.

Our hiring process

The proposed process includes an initial People team conversation, an interview with the CEO, and a practical finance discussion using a fictional case covering cash, growth and funding. A final conversation with relevant senior stakeholders will explore your priorities and approach to the role.

Equality, inclusion and accessibility

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and value the experience and perspective each person brings. Please let us know if you need adjustments during the hiring process.
