About the Role
This is a proactive business insights and performance-management support role, not solely a reporting position. The Client Insights & Business Analyst works closely with BMI and RBH stakeholders to integrate systems and data, create timely and reliable visibility of performance, and translate complex information into clear actions for the business.
The analyst will monitor representative, store, territory, retailer, and geographic performance; identify emerging issues and opportunities quickly; and share objective findings with field management, the Capability & Performance Manager, agency leadership, and RBH stakeholders.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY Create a trusted, integrated view of business and field performance, identify risks and opportunities early, and convert data into timely actions that improve productivity, coverage, and commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Embedded Partnership with BMI & RBH
Act as a day-to-day analytical partner to BMI and RBH stakeholders, maintaining close alignment on business questions, performance priorities, definitions, reporting requirements, and decision timelines.
Build strong working relationships across Client Services, Reporting & Analytics, field leadership, the Capability & Performance Manager, and relevant RBH teams.
Participate in recurring planning, performance reviews, and working sessions; communicate proactively when data limitations, risks, or emerging issues require attention.
- Systems & Data Integration
- Work with BMI and RBH teams to align approved systems, data sources, reporting logic, product and territory mappings, definitions, and refresh processes.
- Extract, clean, reconcile, and consolidate data from field reporting platforms, RBH-approved systems, retailer or distributor feeds, and other approved sources.
- Identify integration gaps, timing delays, duplicate processes, and manual dependencies that limit performance visibility; coordinate with the appropriate technical owners to resolve or mitigate them.
- Document data sources, calculation logic, business rules, refresh timing, ownership, and known limitations to create a reliable shared reporting foundation.
- Timely Performance Visibility
- Build and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and reporting views that provide timely visibility of sales, execution, productivity, inventory, distribution, and agreed field performance indicators.
- Establish practical daily, weekly, monthly, and business-review reporting rhythms based on stakeholder needs and data availability.
- Ensure reporting is accessible, easy to interpret, and tailored to the needs of BMI field leadership, agency leadership, and RBH stakeholders.
- Validate calculations, reporting periods, product mappings, territory assignments, and data completeness before information is distributed.
- Daily Field Performance Monitoring & Escalation
- Analyze representative and team performance each business day using objective, validated measures and agreed benchmarks.
- Identify emerging or sustained performance gaps, unusual patterns, missing activity, execution barriers, and potential data-quality issues quickly.
- Promptly share evidence-based concerns with the relevant Field Manager and the Capability & Performance Manager for investigation, coaching, capability support, or other appropriate follow-up.
- Distinguish clearly between data observations, analytical interpretation, and management decisions; do not make individual employment or disciplinary recommendations.
- Store, Territory & Geographic Insights
Assess performance across stores, retailers, territories, regions, and geographic clusters to identify drivers of growth, persistent underperformance, white-space opportunities, and execution inconsistencies.
Identify high-potential stores, territories, geographic approaches, and execution practices that may warrant replication, additional investment, or expanded coverage.
Recommend evidence-based changes to store prioritization, geographic coverage, resource allocation, call frequency, or execution strategy where the data supports scaling, adjusting, testing, or discontinuing an approach.
Consider operating context, data quality, sample size, seasonality, and other relevant limitations before making recommendations.
- Commercial & Operational Analysis
- Track priority SKUs, sales volume, velocity, distribution, inventory availability, out-of-stocks, retail execution, and agreed productivity measures against targets or benchmarks.
- Investigate what is driving performance and connect sales outcomes with field activity, retail conditions, inventory, geography, and execution quality.
- Conduct focused analysis in response to business questions and translate findings into practical options, implications, and recommended next steps.
- Identify both positive outliers and risks, helping the business understand what should be replicated, reinforced, corrected, deprioritized, or tested further.
- Reporting Ownership & Communication
- Own the development, maintenance, automation, distribution, and continuous improvement of recurring reports, dashboards, scorecards, and business-review materials.
- Prepare concise performance narratives that explain what happened, why it matters, what requires attention, and what action is recommended.
- Share regular reporting and insights within BMI and with RBH stakeholders according to agreed governance, timing, and confidentiality requirements.
- Present findings confidently to client and agency stakeholders, respond to questions, and track agreed actions to completion.
- Data Quality, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor data quality and investigate discrepancies before reporting results; escalate unresolved issues and explain any material limitations transparently.
- Maintain version control, standardized definitions, report documentation, and an organized library of approved analytical outputs.
- Improve reporting processes, reduce avoidable manual work, and support automation while maintaining accuracy, traceability, and appropriate controls.
- Partner with Reporting & Analytics for technical guidance on SQL, data models, dashboards, automation, and analytical methods as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in retail analytics, sales insights, field performance analytics, category analysis, business intelligence, or agency client reporting.
- Demonstrated experience integrating or reconciling data from multiple systems and establishing trusted reporting definitions and processes.
- Experience developing and managing recurring dashboards, scorecards, performance reports, and business-review materials for multiple stakeholder groups.
- Strong commercial acumen, including an understanding of sales performance, productivity, distribution, inventory availability, retail execution, and geographic coverage.
- Experience analyzing performance across representatives, stores, retailers, territories, products, and regions and translating findings into practical business recommendations.
- Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, data validation, and Power Query; strong working knowledge of SQL.
- Power BI or Tableau experience is strongly preferred; experience with retailer portals, distributor data, or syndicated platforms such as NielsenIQ or Circana is an asset.
- Strong critical thinking and judgment, including the ability to separate facts, assumptions, correlations, and recommendations and to communicate data limitations clearly.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience communicating directly with clients and senior business stakeholders.
- Ability to manage daily monitoring, recurring deadlines, business reviews, and ad hoc requests without compromising accuracy.
- Experience in tobacco and nicotine or another regulated retail category is an asset.
- Ability to work in a hybrid or on-site environment in Mississauga and collaborate regularly with BMI and RBH teams.
What Success Looks Like
- BMI and RBH stakeholders have a consistent, trusted, and timely view of performance across agreed systems and data sources.
- Representative, store, territory, retailer, and geographic performance issues are identified early and escalated to the right owners with objective supporting evidence.
- Recurring reporting is accurate, relevant, easy to use, and distributed according to agreed timelines.
- Analysis consistently explains performance drivers and results in clear actions, owners, and follow-up.
- High-potential stores, geographies, and execution practices are identified and assessed for replication or further investment.
- Underperforming stores, territories, or geographic approaches are identified and supported by evidence-based recommendations on coverage, prioritization, or execution changes.
- Data-quality issues and integration gaps are reduced, reporting becomes more automated, and manual effort is redirected toward higher-value analysis.
- Field management and the Capability & Performance Manager receive the insights required to focus coaching and capability interventions where they are most needed.
