AVP Merchandising Platforms

Toronto, Canada In person Full-time

Location: Toronto, ON

Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (“CTC”) is one of Canada’s most recognized and trusted companies, with a portfolio that spans retail, financial services, loyalty, petroleum, and real estate. Founded in 1922, CTC includes iconic banners and businesses such as Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s, PartSource, Gas+, Triangle Rewards, Canadian Tire Financial Services, and CT REIT, supported by a national network of retail and gasoline outlets and tens of thousands of people across Canada.

What you’ll do

We are seeking an experienced, strategic and delivery-focused Assistant Vice President (AVP) to lead our Merchandising Platforms portfolio, with a focus on pricing, promotions and merchandise planning. This role serves as the senior technology partner to the Customer Strategy, Analytics and Merchandise Planning and Merchandising portfolios. The portfolio spans Canadian Tire enterprise banners, and includes some of the enterprise’s most complex, highly visible and Dealer-impacting programs: transforming legacy pricing platforms, delivering a new enterprise Pricing & Promotions Engine, and expanding AI-enabled pricing capabilities across banners.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in retail merchandising and pricing systems, a proven track record of delivering complex, multi-vendor transformations, and the executive presence to lead with confidence through ambiguity.

Key responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Platform Management

Owns a multi-year, enterprise-scale merchandising technology portfolio and roadmap spanning pricing, promotions, merchandise financial planning, product and replenishment platforms across CTR and secondary banners.

Serves as the senior technology partner to the business teams across pricing and merchandising, translating business strategy and must-win goals into an integrated platform roadmap with measurable outcomes in price accuracy, speed to market, platform stability and value realization.

Leads the transformation of legacy pricing platforms, including retiring mainframe-based pricing flows and simplifying a highly integrated pricing ecosystem (corporate pricing, enterprise services, store systems, POS and digital) to improve resiliency, accuracy and agility.

Accountable for delivering the new enterprise Pricing & Promotions Engine as a foundational capability for consistent pricing across store and digital channels, enabling new incentive types for the enterprise.

Ideate, maintain, and deliver the AI-driven roadmap in partnership with key stakeholders, including expanding AI pricing capabilities across the enterprise banners and applying AI and automation to pricing operations.

Proactively identify platform, integration and operational risks, including pricing accuracy, failover and resiliency, and impacts on Dealer and store operations, and develop mitigation and contingency strategies.

Delivery Excellence

  • Ensure programs are delivered on time, on budget, and with clear business value, including rigorous cost, forecast and change-request governance for multi-million-dollar investments co-funded by Corporate and Dealers.
  • Manage multiple concurrent, highly interdependent programs across pricing, promotions and merchandising, sequencing releases, environments and store rollouts to protect business continuity.
  • Leverage best practices in agile and hybrid delivery models to drive transparency, velocity, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and manage program KPIs, health metrics, and risks, escalating proactively through steering committees, the Dealer Working Group and executive forums.
  • Lead stabilization and operational readiness for major go-lives, including pilots, hypercare, incident resolution and reduction of pricing and promotion data discrepancies.
  • Ensure all Merchandising and pricing platforms comply with relevant regulations, standards, controls and best practices.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of senior technology leaders/managers responsible for the Merchandising, pricing and promotions platforms.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages continuous learning and development and is accountable for succession and talent health.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Store Technology, Digital, Enterprise Architecture, AI & Data and Finance teams to deliver integrated end-to-end solutions.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key vendors, system integrators and service providers, holding partners accountable for delivery quality and the resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Negotiate contracts, licensing and capacity commitments, and manage vendor performance to ensure high-quality service delivery.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience with retail merchandising platforms, including pricing and promotions systems, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Senior technology leadership experience driving large-scale enterprise platforms, with significant depth in merchandising systems (pricing, promotions, merchandise planning, product and replenishment).
  • Demonstrated experience leading pricing and merchandising transformation, including legacy/mainframe modernization and implementation of an enterprise pricing and promotions engine.
  • Strong understanding of AI, automation, and data capabilities applied to pricing and merchandising, including AI-driven price optimization.
  • Experience overseeing merchandising platforms within a complex, multi-banner business environment; experience with Dealer or franchise models an asset.
  • Proven ability to partner with executive stakeholders and lead complex vendor ecosystems.
  • Strong financial acumen, governance mindset, and experience managing large technology portfolios and operating budgets.
