Our Building Services team delivers integrated, resilient and technology-led solutions for complex buildings and infrastructure. Our Building Automation, ELV and ICT specialists work across commercial, mission-critical, healthcare, hospitality and mixed-use developments, combining controls and systems-integration expertise with a practical understanding of construction, commissioning and building operations.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Automation and ELV/ICT Engineer or Senior Engineer to join our Chennai office and contribute to projects across India, the Middle East and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

We are seeking an engineer with strong consultancy design experience in Building Management Systems (BMS), building automation and controls, supported by capability in Extra-Low Voltage (ELV), Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and electronic security systems.

The successful candidate will lead or develop coordinated controls and ELV designs from concept through construction and commissioning for commercial buildings, data centres and other complex facilities.

The role requires confident engagement with clients, architects, MEP engineers, contractors, controls specialists, system integrators and vendors, together with sound engineering judgement and strong technical documentation, coordination and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Develop Building Management System and building automation designs, including controls philosophies, points schedules, sequences of operation, system architectures, network topologies, plant schematics, control-panel requirements, integration matrices and performance specifications.

Design and coordinate controls for HVAC, central utility plants, electrical monitoring, energy metering, lighting and other building systems, with particular emphasis on mission-critical facilities and data centres.

Define interfaces and data exchange between BMS, SCADA, EPMS, fire alarm, security, lighting control, lifts, packaged plant and other third-party systems using appropriate open protocols.

Design ELV and ICT systems, including fire detection and alarm, voice evacuation/public address, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, structured cabling, LAN/Wi-Fi infrastructure, intercom, and other specialist systems as applicable.

Prepare design criteria, layouts, schematics, calculations, technical specifications, equipment schedules, bills of quantities, cost inputs and tender documentation.

Coordinate automation and ELV requirements with architectural, electrical, mechanical, fire-and-life-safety, security, IT and structural disciplines, including sensors, control devices, panels, power supplies, containment, network infrastructure and equipment-space requirements.

Review vendor submissions, shop drawings, control schematics, software and graphics proposals, material submittals, method statements and technical deviations for compliance with the design intent and project requirements.

Support tender evaluations, value engineering, technical clarifications and assessments of controls contractors, OEMs and system integrators.

Contribute to BIM-led coordination and work effectively with Revit and CAD technicians to deliver accurate, coordinated drawings and models.

Manage assigned deliverables, budgets and programmes across multiple projects while maintaining Cundall’s quality and safety expectations.

The Skills

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Instrumentation, Controls, Mechatronics, Telecommunications or a related engineering discipline.

Typically 4–8 years of relevant consultancy or design experience for Engineer/Senior Engineer level, with demonstrable building automation or BMS experience; candidates with stronger leadership experience may be considered for a more senior position.

Proven experience developing BMS controls philosophies, points schedules, sequences of operation, system architectures, integration requirements and commissioning documentation is essential.

Experience producing coordinated Building Automation and ELV/ICT designs for commercial, data centre, healthcare, hospitality, industrial or large infrastructure projects.

Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks and BIM coordination workflows is strongly preferred.

Ability to develop technical specifications, BOQs, design reports, calculations, schematics and tender packages with limited supervision.

Experience coordinating with clients, architects, MEP consultants, contractors, OEMs, controls specialists and system integrators.

Familiarity with applicable Indian codes and approvals, including NBC requirements, relevant BIS/IS standards and local fire-authority expectations, together with commonly used international standards.

Relevant certifications or training in BMS platforms, Niagara Framework, networking, RCDD, CCNA/CCNP or security systems are advantageous but not mandatory.
