Software Developer

The Role

You will design, build, and support exciting, innovative custom applications that solve real business problems across the company, including in areas of Manufacturing, R&D, Procurement, and Supply Chain. Working directly with business stakeholders, you will take ideas from requirements and rapid prototypes through security review to production. You will also maintain and modernize the existing application portfolio, including GenAI-enabled solutions. This is a hands-on developer role as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities

• Solution Design and Rapid Prototyping
• Meet with stakeholders to understand their requirements for outputs, user experience (UX), and user interface (UI).
• Translate requirements into a solution of architecture and design that can be taken to production.
• Build rapid prototypes to validate concepts and gather user feedback early, then iterate toward a production-ready solution.

Backend Development

• Use Python as the primary backend language.
• Build and maintain robust, scalable web applications.
• Develop RESTful APIs using frameworks such as Flask or Fast API.
• Apply object-oriented programming (OOP) principles throughout development.

Frontend Development

• Build intuitive user interfaces using a modern frontend framework, such as Vue.js or React.
• Use TypeScript for frontend development.
• CI/CD and Cloud Deployment
• Own and manage CI/CD pipelines on Azure.
• Implement and improve CI/CD processes to ensure efficient, reliable software delivery.
• Help migrate legacy applications to modern cloud platforms.
• Application Support and Enhancements
• Support existing applications to keep them stable and performant, including code refactoring, bug fixes, and helpdesk support during US Eastern Time (ET) hours.
• Improve the support ticketing system (e.g., Jira) so it captures requests for upgrades, expansions, enhancements, and bug fixes to existing custom applications.
• Build and execute a plan to resolve current and backlog issues.
• Manage the change request process with IT stakeholders.
• Keep stakeholders in India, the US East Coast, and Europe proactively informed on status and progress toward resolution.
• Security and Architecture Reviews
• Lead security and architecture reviews to obtain approval for production deployments and changes to existing applications.
• Work with IT stakeholders (Cybersecurity, Architecture, and Infrastructure) to explain and justify your proposed approach and incorporate their review of feedback into the solution.

Collaboration

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Data Scientists, Cyber, Architecture, and Data Engineering teams
• Innovation and Modernization
• Bring a creative mindset to finding cost-effective solutions, such as verifiably secure open-source tools, for building new applications across the company.
• Modernize legacy applications and processes, such as converting complex VBA macros and spreadsheets into maintainable yet cost-effective custom applications.
• Incorporate open-source libraries (e.g., operations research/optimization solvers, R&D and scientific analysis packages) to extend application capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science and software engineering.
• 4+ years of full-stack development experience, with deep expertise in Python + React is non-negotiable.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Hands-on experience with at least one frontend framework (Vue.js or React).
• Proficiency in TypeScript for frontend development.
• Experience building full-stack applications that include custom GenAI functionality (e.g., using Azure AI Foundry).
• Experience with Azure web services and CI/CD practices and tools.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning new technologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with team members and stakeholders in the US and Europe.
• Able to think flexibly, quickly learn new business and technical concepts, and apply a startup-style mindset to design innovative, efficient solutions for users
• Availability to work approximately 5 hours overlapping with US Eastern Time zone each day (approx. 8:30 AM–1:00 PM US East Coast time), which often requires a later start and end time in India.

Desired Additional Skills

Confident using GitHub Copilot and Claude Code as developer tools, including know-how to optimize token usage when using these tools.
