Development Lead – Data Engineering & Application Delivery

Location: Pune Maharashtra India

We are seeking an experienced Development Lead – Data Engineering & Application Delivery to provide technical leadership, delivery management, and day-to-day oversight for a distributed development and production-support team. The Development Lead will serve as the primary point of coordination between the development team and stakeholders, translating business and technical requirements into an actionable book of work, managing team capacity and priorities, ensuring high-quality delivery, strengthening production support practices, and mentoring developers.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in database and data warehouse development, Big Data, ETL, Python/PySpark, batch processing, automation, and DevOps with demonstrated experience leading technical teams in an enterprise environment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Delivery and Book of Work Management
• Own the development team’s Book of Work, including priorities, assignments, milestones, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments.
• Translate business and technical requirements into actionable development activities and ensure timely execution.
• Maintain clear communication with onshore stakeholders regarding status, risks, capacity, and delivery timelines.
• Technical Leadership and Engineering Quality
• Provide technical leadership across database, ETL, data engineering, Big Data, integration, and automation initiatives.
• Review solution designs and code for scalability, performance, security, maintainability, and adherence to engineering standards.
• Promote reusable solutions, automation, documentation, testing, code quality, and development best practices.
• Production Support and Operational Stability
• Provide oversight for production support, overnight batch processing, and recurring operational issues.
• Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and permanent corrective actions for batch failures, production incidents, and performance issues.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, automation, reconciliation, reliability, and reduction of manual support activities.

Team Leadership and Development

• Provide day-to-day technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to developers.
• Promote accountability, collaboration, knowledge sharing, documentation, and cross-training across the team.
• Support hiring, technical interviews, onboarding, knowledge transfer, and development of new team members.
• Governance, Risk, and Compliance
• Ensure development, implementation, production support, and operational activities comply with applicable Citi policies, standards, controls, and procedures.
• Ensure required testing, approvals, documentation, implementation controls, and risk assessments are completed appropriately
• Promote awareness of information security, data protection, access management, change management, and technology risk requirements.

Technical Skills

• Database and Data Warehouse Development — Required
• Strong relational database development experience, preferably Microsoft SQL Server, including advanced SQL, stored procedures, functions, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data integrity, enterprise databases, and data warehouse development.
• Big Data, Python, and PySpark — Required
• Strong programming experience with Python and hands-on experience with PySpark and large-scale data processing.
• Experience developing, supporting, and troubleshooting Big Data and data-engineering solutions.
• Strong understanding of data transformation, data quality, reconciliation, and distributed data-processing patterns.
• ETL and Microsoft BI Stack — Required
• Strong experience designing, developing, supporting, and troubleshooting ETL processes and enterprise batch routines.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or comparable enterprise ETL technologies.
• Enterprise Scheduling and Batch Automation — Required
• Hands-on experience with AutoSys or comparable enterprise workload-scheduling technologies.
• Experience scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting complex batch workflows and dependencies.
• Ability to improve batch reliability through automation, proactive monitoring, and reduction of manual operational activities.
• Data Transmission and Integration — Required
• Experience with enterprise-managed secure file transfer technologies such as NDM / IBM Connect:Direct, SFTP, or comparable solutions.
• Experience supporting integrations between applications, databases, upstream/downstream systems, and external interfaces.
• DevOps, CI/CD, and Version Control — Required
• Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD practices, and automated build, test, deployment, and release processes.
• Experience with enterprise source-control practices, preferably GitHub Enterprise, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and release management.
• Ability to promote consistent engineering and deployment practices across the development team.
• Infrastructure and Environment Management — Required / Preferred
• Experience supporting application infrastructure and coordinating infrastructure-related activities.
• Understanding of development, testing, and production environments, application dependencies, database servers, capacity requirements, upgrades, and patching.

AI-Assisted Software Development — Desired

• Experience using enterprise-approved AI tools to improve development productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and automation.
• NoSQL — Nice to Have
• Experience with MongoDB or similar NoSQL technologies.

Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science , Information Technology or related discipline.

Masters Degree preferred.
