Lead Accountant- Finance

The City of Bowie is seeking an experienced professional to join our Finance Department team in the position of Lead Accountant. In this role the successful applicant will perform complex/specialized accounting work, coordinate projects with other City departments as well as analyze budgetary, statistical, accounting, and departmental data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, with substantial coursework in accounting.
  • Five years of Accounting experience. Governmental or non-profit accounting
  • experience highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards, fund accounting, internal controls, and governmental financial reporting.
  • At least one year of experience leading accounting assignments, reviewing the work of others, training staff, or coordinating major accounting processes.
  • A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certification
  • Experience preparing or contributing to an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Prior experience in a municipal finance office of comparable size and complexity
  • SALARY: $89,270 - $102,660 Depending on Qualifications
