Application Engineer – M365
£42,000 to £49,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A)
Manchester city centre - In this role you’ll work in a hybrid way, working against agile methodologies – splitting your time between home and the office (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).
We’re open to applications from people who may require flexible working arrangements. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss your flexible working requirements during the interview process, and at offer stage.
We’re reshaping our Digital, Technology and Data function for the future, creating new opportunities, strengthening our capability, and building clearer, more resilient ways of working so we can deliver even better services for our Co-op, our colleagues, members and customers.
We’re looking for a M365 Application Engineer to join our Digital, Technology and Data team in Manchester. We’ll look to you to design, deliver and support change across our cloud collaboration platforms (e.g. Microsoft 365), ensuring services are transformed, configured, governed and managed effectively.
Why this role matters
As an M365 Engineer at Co-op you’ll work with colleagues across our wider Digital Technology & Data (DT&D) team; using your expertise in collaboration service tooling to design and deliver technical change, improve and optimise our cloud collaboration services, implement appropriate controls and risk mitigations, and increase the value we get from our collaboration platforms.
What you’ll do
- Assess cloud collaboration services and proposed changes, identifying technical, security and operational risks and designing and implementing appropriate controls and mitigations.
- Support the planning, implementation, and maintenance of Microsoft 365 environments (e.g. Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange Online)
- Work closely with colleagues across DT&D to understand their collaboration needs
- Identify and explore continuous improvement opportunities; closely monitoring service health, usage, and compliance
- Produce and maintain technical and service design documentation for Collaboration technologies and changes across collaboration services, documenting configuration, dependencies, controls and implementation approaches.
- Work closely with technology suppliers to drive service improvements/initiatives
- Take responsibility for the technical delivery of change across projects and product initiatives, including assessment, technical design, planning, testing, implementation and transition into service.
What you’ll bring
We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:
- Experience in an engineering, technical delivery or cloud product role, with evidence of designing and delivering technical change.
- Hands-on experience assessing, designing, delivering and implementing change across Microsoft 365 collaboration services.
- Experience producing technical or service design documentation and translating requirements, risk and security considerations into technical solutions and controls.
- A good understanding of email gateway security and domain name system services
- A basic understanding of networking, security, and cloud computing principles
- Good communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to translate technical language to a non-technical audience
- A proactive approach to learning, continuous improvement and developing your technical expertise
We know some people may hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every requirement. At Co-op, we’re committed to building diverse and inclusive teams, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly, we still encourage you to apply.
Why Co-op?

We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:
- An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
- 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
- A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
- Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
- 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
- Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
- Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
- 24/7 colleague support service
- Training and support for your development and career progression
- Cycle-to-work scheme
