Marketing & Social Media Intern: CatProfiler

San Antonio, TX In person Internship

Summer 2027 Marketing & Social Media Intern: CatProfiler

Cat lovers welcome! Social media addicts welcome! CatProfiler, a San Antonio cat behavior business, wants a summer intern to grow its platform, sell its merch, and build buzz for an upcoming book.

About CatProfiler

  • Jenne, the CatProfiler, has 25 years of cat behavior casework around the world and has coached owners to find more than 1,500 lost cats. The business has four parts:
  • Behavior consultations: in-person visits with cats and their people all over San Antonio. Jenne handles this side herself.
  • A merchandise line on Etsy
  • Whackadoodle Cat Stuff: a Substack publication of cat humor and cat news.
  • The book: an upcoming memoir based on lost cat case files.

The role and summer goals

  • This is a marketing and sales internship.
  • By the end of the summer, success looks like this:
  • Facebook and Instagram: the main growth goal. Number of followers increases 25 to 50% over the summer, measured from the baseline counted in week 1.
  • Cross-posting: Substack, Facebook, Instagram, and Etsy linked to each other, and every Substack post, new and past, shared on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Etsy: every CatProfiler product listed with photos, videos, descriptions, and search tags by the end of week 3.
  • Substack: Whackadoodle Cat Stuff keeps growing as Facebook and Instagram send readers to it.
  • Community: every comment and message answered within one business day, plus daily engagement with other cat accounts and groups.
  • Events: a CatProfiler booth at 2 to 3 summer events, selling merch and gaining followers/newsletter signups.
  • Book buzz: at least 10 pitches to podcasts, blogs, cat communities, or local media.

Responsibilities and weekly hours

Social media is the biggest share of the job, about 16 of 40 weekly hours. Etsy work is heaviest in weeks 1 to 3; event work picks up later in the summer.

Weekly meeting with Jenne; weekly numbers report on followers, engagement, Etsy views, and sales

First project: link the platforms and put the archive to work

Your first project starts in week 1: connect CatProfiler's platforms and share the Substack archive on Facebook and Instagram. The steady drip of older articles then continues all summer.

Revive the accounts: update photos, bios, and links on Facebook and Instagram, and pin a welcome post.

Link everything: use the same name, photo, and bio everywhere; point each profile to Substack, Facebook, Instagram, and Etsy; connect Facebook and Instagram in Meta Business Suite to schedule posts to both.

Inventory the archive: list every Substack post with its date and topic.

Sort it three ways: ready to share now, needs updating, or too dated to reuse.

Refresh: fix outdated details, add current Etsy and booking links, and add a fresh image. All changes to writing must be approved.

Repurpose: turn each article into a Facebook post that leads with the story's hook, an Instagram carousel or Reel, and a story with the link.

Schedule a steady drip: share new articles within a day of publishing, plus 2 to 3 older ones a week.

Track and recycle: note which posts bring follows and clicks, and reshare the winners every few months.

A typical week

Most weeks follow the same rhythm, with event days scheduled at least two weeks ahead.

Monday: check-in with Jenne (up to 1 hour); review last week's numbers; set the week's content calendar.

Every weekday: about 45 minutes answering comments and messages and engaging with other accounts.

Tuesday to Thursday: create and schedule content; Etsy listings and product photos; Substack and book outreach.

Friday: weekly numbers report to Jenne; event prep.

Event days: some Saturdays or Sundays, traded for weekday hours that same week.

Orientation, training, and guidelines

Week 1 is a hands-on orientation covering the business, the brand voice, the Etsy shop, and a full social media audit; it ends with you presenting a 30-day plan. Jenne reviews every post in week 2, and from week 3 you'll run the content calendar on your own within these guidelines.

Guidelines

  • Tone: funny and warm. We laugh with cat owners, never at them. We often write from the cat’s point of view. Be spicy and irreverent, but keep it clean – no litterbox or vomit jokes.
  • Behavior questions: never give cat behavior advice in comments or messages. Point people to Jenne's website to book a consultation.
  • Lost-cat messages: point people to the free GPT on the CatProfiler website as well as the FAQ there.
  • CatProfiler voice: anything written in Jenne’s name or about her book needs her approval.
  • Photos: post only images we have permission to use.
  • No AI content. No AI-generated writing or images. No AI-written posts, captions, or replies. Be warm, be human.

Who we're looking for

  • The ideal intern studies marketing, sales, communications, or business and already spends a lot of time on social media.
  • Must have

  • Engaging, clear writing
  • Strong organization and follow-through
  • Availability for some weekend events
  • Nice to have
  • Experience growing an account, a club page, or a small business's social media
