The Statler Hotel is the teaching hotel of the Cornell Nolan School of Hotel Administration within the SC Johnson College of Business. The hotel's Finance Department, led by the Hotel Controller, is responsible for the full accounting cycle of the property — revenue, billing and accounts receivable, financial reporting and month-end close, budgeting and forecasting, compliance, procurement, and inventory — in support of hotel leadership, guests, clients, and the college.
The Opportunity
While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.
The Account Representative serves as the hotel's billing and accounts receivable representative, with core responsibility for BEO billing and invoicing, statement generation, guest ledger and aging management, chargebacks, and daily cash application including credit card reconciliation and Sertifi deposits. Performs financial record-keeping and reporting in support of department needs, resolving routine to moderately complex billing questions and escalating unusual items.
Works under the general supervision of the Hotel Controller with growing independence, following established department procedures, and may be asked to take on temporary task coverage assignments at certain times. The position is intended to be promoted to Account Representative V (Band E) after approximately one year, contingent on performance, at which point the incumbent absorbs the hotel's income audit functions and steps into the full independence expectations of that classification.
Key Responsibilities
- Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) for billing accuracy and manage event billing, invoicing, deposits, and account setup.
- Manage accounts receivable, guest ledger balances, aging reports, direct billing, client statements, chargebacks, and payment discrepancies.
- Perform daily credit card reconciliation, process deposits and payments, and maintain financial tracking spreadsheets.
- Conduct revenue audits, review event attrition and contracted minimums, and prepare quarterly financial analyses.
- Participate in cashiering operations, support cash handling and reconciliation, and coordinate cashier training and onboarding.
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate financial reports and provide support during system downtime.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to student workers on billing procedures, cash handling, and financial systems.
- Assist with special projects, seasonal workload demands, and additional finance team responsibilities as assigned.
