Join our D. E. Shaw Investment Management (DESIM) group in New York. The D. E. Shaw group seeks talented software developers to join its (DESIM) group. Members of our technical staff collaborate on challenging problems that directly impact the firm’s continued success by utilizing their analytical, mathematical, and software design skills, as well as some of the most advanced computing resources in the world. The DESIM group aims to identify market inefficiencies within and across various asset classes and construct optimal portfolios to maximize utility for our investors.
What you’ll do day-to-day Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan the installation of new software systems and modifications of existing systems. Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of designs within given time and cost constraints. Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and other stakeholders to design software systems and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
Consult with customers and other departments on project status, proposals, and technical issues, including software system design and maintenance. Design, develop, and modify software systems and use scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and the consequences of designs. Determine system performance standards and train users to use new or modified software. Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, upgrade interfaces, and improve performance. Prepare reports and correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, and status. Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for the analysis of system capabilities and requirements. Supervise the work of programmers, technologists, technicians, and other engineering and scientific personnel. What we’re looking for A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field of study.
Two years of experience with the following: programming in Python; programming in JavaScript and TypeScript; object-oriented programming; software design patterns; debugging software in a UNIX environment; distributed computing frameworks; and mathematical optimization. The annual base salary for this position is $200,000 - $275,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
