The D. E. Shaw group seeks a technical project manager to join its Human Capital (HC) Products team, which manages technology that optimizes HC processes, integrates AI thoughtfully, and empowers the firm to make data-driven talent decisions. In the near term, this role will help lead a multi-year initiative to reimagine how the firm hires—from sourcing and candidate review through offer and onboarding. This role offers opportunities to partner with Recruiting, HC Generative AI, and software development teams to deliver scalable, secure, and flexible solutions, leveraging a combination of proprietary systems and third-party products.
What you’ll do day-to-day Drive alignment among stakeholders across the firm to develop and implement HC’s recruiting platform, processes, and related technology. Define and manage project scope and timelines, develop detailed project plans, and ensure alignment among cross-functional teams, leveraging AI tools to manage projects. Track progress against milestones, prepare project updates for leadership, ensure timely communication across teams, and proactively address risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks to keep initiatives on schedule.
Help guide AI-enabled recruiting tools from roadmap to adoption, working closely with end users to pilot, refine, and scale new solutions across the hiring process. Apply agile project management techniques to adapt to evolving priorities, resolve ambiguity, and drive projects to successful completion. Partner with HC Products leadership on chief-of-staff work, such as running planning cycles, managing operating rhythms, and improving workflows.
What we’re looking for A bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of technical project or program management experience with technology platforms or infrastructure. Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, provide advisory support, and drive execution and results in complex environments. Proven project management skills, including experience managing large-scale, enterprise-wide initiatives with multiple stakeholder groups.
A hands-on, pragmatic approach to execution, including flexibility and a willingness to contribute directly; experience in chief-of-staff or operational roles is a plus. Curiosity about AI tools and an interest in experimenting with them; prior hands-on experience with AI is welcome but not required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for translating business needs into actionable plans and facilitating collaboration.
Keen problem-solving abilities, sound judgment, and the discretion to work with confidential information. Exposure to human capital or recruiting processes is welcome but not required. The expected annual base salary for this position is $180,000 to $230,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
