You will be the senior architecture authority across the programme’s full product landscape, with SAP Commerce Cloud as your core platform anchor. This is a governance and design role: you set the standards other teams build to, review and approve architecture decisions across the programme’s tech leads, and keep the platform, integration, and API architecture coherent as multiple product teams build against it in parallel. You work across all of the programme’s tech leads, resolving conflicts and holding the line on standards. Alongside the programme, you will help lead the architecture capability in Merkle Denmark Engineering, contributing to client advisory and pre-sales.
Requirements
- 5-7 years in enterprise or solution architecture roles, with SAP Commerce Cloud as your core platform anchor, including at least 3 years hands-on within SAP Commerce specifically.
- Experience setting and governing architecture standards across multiple products and teams, without direct line authority over the people executing them.
- Strong architectural understanding of SAP Commerce: extension architecture, data model, and service layer design, and the platform’s constraints as a PaaS (CCv2 build manifests, deployment pipelines, environment topology).
- Working knowledge of SAP BTP, including identity and authentication services.
- Architectural fluency in OAuth2 and SSO (SAML/OIDC) patterns across a multi-product landscape.
- Headless / API-first architecture experience with Vue storefronts and BFF patterns.
- Experience architecting integrations between SAP Commerce, S/4HANA and ECC, and middleware/iPaaS platforms such as SAP Integration Suite.
- Working knowledge of a CMS/DXP platform (Umbraco or equivalent) and how content and commerce boundaries are drawn.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted frontend architectures and API gateway/management patterns.
- B2B commerce depth spanning Commerce, ERP, and pricing systems: organizational account structures, contract and customer-specific pricing, approvals, and quoting.
- SQL and relational data modeling depth.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and practice (e.g. TOGAF, C4, DDD).
- Client-facing experience advising senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable evaluating and advising teams on AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code).
- Nice to Haves
- Aviation, aerospace parts, or MRO/spares distribution industry background.
- Pre-sales experience: solution design, estimation, and proposal input.
- Hands-on experience with SAP LeanIX and/or Signavio is a plus.
- SAP Certified Development Professional, SAP Commerce Cloud, is a plus.
- TOGAF certification is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Enterprise architecture governance: Own architecture standards and consistency across the full programme, with SAP Commerce Cloud as the anchor platform. Review and approve significant architecture decisions across the programme.
- Platform architecture (Commerce core): Extension structure, item type and data model design, and the boundary between Commerce, PIM, ERP, pricing, CMS, and the BFF. Own the line between customization and configuration.
- API architecture: Standards and target-state design for Commerce, other product APIs, and the BFF, governed through Azure APIM, including auth, session, cart, checkout, and order history contracts.
- Integration architecture: Target-state contracts between Commerce, S/4HANA and ECC, pricing guidance, and tax, delivered through SAP Integration Suite.
- Content and commerce boundary: The boundary between content authoring/delivery and commerce data, across brands and sites.
- Release and platform governance: Standards for CI/CD, environment promotion, and platform/JDK version upgrades across the programme.
- Performance and reliability standards: Caching, impex and cronjob design patterns, and observability standards across the programme.
- Architecture governance and mentoring: Chair design and architecture reviews, mentor tech leads on standards, and arbitrate cross-team architecture decisions.
- Architecture practice: Help shape the ways of working and standards of the architecture function, and support the development of our architects.
- Client advisory and pre-sales: Contribute to architecture assessments, technical audits, and solution design for new and existing clients.
