Central Technology is the force multiplier, accelerating creative opportunity and progress at EA. We’re a world-class community of technologists, innovators, strategists, and orchestrators transforming interactive entertainment. Together, we power the platforms, AI-driven tools, live services, and infrastructure that ensure global scale, secure player experiences, and unlock bold new possibilities.
Infrastructure & Platform Services builds and runs the technology foundation for EA’s games. Our teams deliver the live services and backend infrastructure that are used to ship, scale, and operate secure, reliable game experiences for millions of players worldwide.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Service Enablement organization as a technical leader and change-maker. In this role, you will lead a team of software developers transitioning from traditional infrastructure support to an automated, platform-product engineering model.
This is not a traditional DevOps or systems administration role. We are looking for a software craftsman who is highly proficient in Python and Go, passionate about the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and deeply experienced in driving execution within a structured Agile/Scrum framework.
You will partner closely with our Architecture team to establish foundational software engineering processes (code review standards, CI/CD, testing, release schedules) across the organization, while also stepping into the Product Owner (PO) role for core development initiatives and serving as our team’s Jira champion.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Engineering & Code Standards (Python & Go)
- Write Production-Grade Code: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable microservices and APIs using Python and Go.
- Establish Code Quality Guardrails: Define and enforce organization-wide coding standards, including linting, auto-formatting (e.g., Black, flake8, golangci-lint), static analysis, and documentation.
- Lead Rigorous Code Reviews: Implement and champion a structured peer review workflow (branching strategies, clear Merge/Pull Request templates, mandatory peer sign-offs, squash-and-merge policies, and branch hygiene).
Technical Leadership & SDLC Governance
Own the Full SDLC: Guide engineering projects through every lifecycle phase, establishing milestones for Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), structured release schedules, semantic versioning, and End-of-Life (EoL) / End-of-Support (EoS) roadmaps.
Architecture Alignment: Partner closely with Architecture to translate high-level technical strategies into concrete, team-level engineering implementations.
Team Mentorship & Growth: Act as the technical anchor for junior and mid-level engineers, providing active mentoring, technical pairing, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Agile/Scrum Leadership, Product Ownership & Jira Management
Agile Advocacy: Model and reinforce daily Agile/Scrum hygiene (sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives) to help the team mature in its delivery cadence.
Act as Product Owner (PO): Step into the Product Owner role for key internal platforms—collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements, break down epics, and prioritize sprint backlogs against business value.
Fluent Jira Ticket Management: Actively maintain and organize Jira boards, ensuring user stories have well-defined acceptance criteria, accurate estimation, and clean status tracking throughout every sprint.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, and maintaining production software systems in Python and/or Go.
- Agile Native: Extensive experience working in a mature, fast-paced Agile/Scrum software development environment.
- SDLC Discipline: Proven track record of guiding software through the complete development lifecycle (ideation, MVP, automated testing, versioned releases, deprecation).
- Code Review Champion: Strong proficiency with Git collaboration workflows, branching conventions (trunk-based or Gitflow), and automated CI/CD validation.
- API Architecture: Proven experience designing and implementing maintainable RESTful or gRPC APIs.
- Jira Fluency: Highly proficient in Jira for ticket lifecycle management, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and workflow tracking.
- Leadership & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capability to lead, influence, and elevate an engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with containerized application environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience developing automation workloads, Slack integrations, or AI-assisted tooling (Agentic AI).
- Familiarity with core infrastructure security concepts (API security, token management, certificate lifecycles, or secrets management).
