What you'll be doing on our Business Operations & Improvement Development Programme, People
Our Business Operations & Improvement Development Programme begins on 6th September 2027.
Over two years, you'll complete rotations across different teams within our People function. Each placement will introduce new HR disciplines, business challenges and ways of working.
As your experience grows, you'll take on increasingly complex work and greater responsibility. Regular feedback and development conversations will help you understand your strengths, build new skills and take ownership of your development.
Alongside your placements, you'll benefit from role-specific technical training and structured development experiences. There will also be opportunities to attend external conferences and events and receive support towards a CIPD qualification.
People are at the heart of Nationwide's success. Through this programme, you'll gain first-hand experience of how HR helps colleagues develop their careers, perform at their best and deliver great outcomes for customers.
No two days are the same. One day could involve analysing people data and preparing insight for a leadership discussion. Another could see you meeting stakeholders, supporting a People initiative or working on a project designed to improve the colleague experience.
You'll also gain exposure to the technologies changing HR. This could include Microsoft 365, collaboration platforms, People systems, reporting tools and emerging technologies such as AI.
Throughout the programme, you'll develop skills in
Business and commercial awareness
Stakeholder engagement and relationship management
Consulting and influencing
Critical thinking and problem solving

Digital working and emerging technology
The breadth of the programme means you'll encounter unfamiliar topics, new stakeholders and changing priorities. You'll learn how to work through ambiguity, balance competing demands and build confidence where there isn't always a straightforward answer.
This isn't a programme spent watching from the sidelines. You'll work on meaningful projects, contribute to decisions that affect colleagues across Nationwide and build practical experience from the start.
