Nationwide Building Society Finance/FinTech

Risk Partner

United Kingdom Hybrid Full-time

We’re looking for a Risk Partner to join our Finance Risk & Controls team and play a visible role in strengthening risk management across Finance.

Finance Risk & Controls supports Finance to manage risk confidently, strengthen governance and maintain an effective control environment. We work closely with Finance teams, senior stakeholders, second line risk, internal audit and wider business areas to ensure risk, control, governance and reporting requirements are clear, embedded and delivered to a high standard.

As Risk Partner, you’ll help set the standard for strong risk management across Finance. You’ll provide practical risk, control and governance advice, represent the team in key forums, and turn complex information into clear insight that supports better decisions.

You’ll support control simplification and automation, strengthen governance and reporting, and ensure risk and control matters are presented accurately, consistently and with impact. This includes producing sharp senior management and committee reporting, supporting effective governance, and making sure issues, actions and control themes are clearly articulated and followed through.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this role, you'll be based at your nearest regional office or hub. We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Glasgow or Swindon site approximately once per quarter. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office.

If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

What you’ll be doing

As Risk Partner, you'll work closely with Finance teams to provide clear, proportionate risk and control advice, helping colleagues manage risk within appetite while delivering positive customer, member and operational outcomes. Drawing on data, assurance findings, incident themes and stakeholder insight, you'll identify control weaknesses, simplify processes and strengthen the design, operation and evidence of key controls.

You'll support the automation and standardisation of risk and control activity, helping to reduce manual effort, improve consistency and make reporting more efficient and reliable. You'll also translate enterprise risk, governance and policy requirements into practical guidance that colleagues can understand and apply consistently in their day-to-day activities.

Working across a range of stakeholders, you'll coordinate remediation actions, reporting and continuous improvement activity, ensuring progress is visible, risks are escalated appropriately and outcomes are delivered in line with governance expectations. You'll build trusted relationships across Finance, senior stakeholders and subject matter experts, representing the risk perspective in operational and governance forums while helping to foster a proactive risk culture.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can build trust quickly, exercise sound judgement and influence confidently at mid to senior levels.

About you

A well-developed understanding of enterprise risk, operational risk, governance and control frameworks, with the ability to apply requirements practically in a first line environment.

Experience assessing risk and control environments, identifying themes and making clear recommendations that strengthen control effectiveness.

A continuous improvement mindset, with experience or interest in improving control design, simplifying processes and supporting automation or more efficient ways of working.

The ability to interpret policy requirements and translate them into clear guidance, awareness material or documentation that helps colleagues operate consistently and within risk appetite.

Sound judgement and independence of thought, with the confidence to provide constructive challenge while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Excellent communication, influencing and coordination skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams and deliver outcomes through others without direct authority.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
