CU-Boulder Career Fair - Software Engineering Internships

Greenwood Village, CO In person Internship

As a Space Vehicle Electrical Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience developing, testing, and troubleshooting the flight hardware that powers our next-generation satellites. Working alongside our Electrical Power Systems (EPS) and Command & Data Handling (C&DH) teams, you will help take hardware concepts from the laboratory bench all the way to orbital preparation. This role blends rigorous technical hardware development with fast-paced laboratory testing, PCBA debugging, and test automation.

This role will be fully on-site in our Greenwood Village, Colorado office for Summer 2027. Responsibilities PCBA Debug & Troubleshooting: Isolate hardware anomalies down to the component level on complex analog, digital, and power distribution circuits across both development benches and flight-ready hardware. Satellite Subsystem Testing: Execute functional, parametric, and environmental testing on critical satellite subsystems and components.

Test Automation & Tooling: Write and modify Python scripts to automate hardware commanding and perform data collection. Engineering Collaboration: Support EPS and C&DH engineers with schematic reviews, component selection, and laboratory test setups. Required Qualifications Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related STEM discipline. Hands-on familiarity with core laboratory instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and digital multimeters).

Basic exposure to hardware design/analysis tools (such as Altium Designer, KiCad, or LTspice) and programming in Python. Proven experience designing, building, or modifying hardware through educational coursework, lab work, or personal projects. Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident) due to industry-standard International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and export control protocols. Ability and willingness to work full-time in-office at our Greenwood Village, CO location.

Ability to document and communicate complex ideas and collaborate with other technical teams as required. Preferred Qualifications Clear understanding of passive electronic components, power regulators, microcontrollers, and standard communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART). Active participation in hands-on, high-reliability technical project teams (e.g., CubeSat, Mars/Lunar Rover, Formula SAE Electric, or Solar Car).

Previous aerospace or electronics internship/co-op experience is a strong plus.
