Position Summary

The Commodity Manager(Energy) reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing and owns the end-to-end strategy, sourcing, commercial performance, supplier portfolio, and risk profile for assigned HV Battery commodities for application in BESS and EV across the product lifecycle. This role converts business and product roadmaps into executable category strategies; leads make-versus-buy decisions, Sourcing Council governance, competitive sourcing, negotiations, contracting, and supplier quarterly business reviews; and delivers measurable cost, cash, quality, delivery, capacity, innovation, and resilience outcomes.

The Commodity Manager leads cross-functional work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Program Management, Planning, Legal, and suppliers to support new product introduction, stable production, and long-term enterprise value.

Key Responsibilities

This list of essential duties is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties, as management may deem necessary from time to time. The team member must be able to perform each essential job duty identified below satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of this position unless doing so would create an undue hardship.

Own and execute a multi-year commodity strategy aligned with product, technology, operations, sustainability, financial, and regional roadmaps; define preferred suppliers, sourcing waves, negotiation levers, and value targets.

Create fact-based spend and market intelligence covering demand, cost drivers, supply-demand dynamics, capacity, technology shifts, raw-material indices, regulatory trends, geographic exposure, and supplier financial health.

Lead make-versus-buy analyses with Operations, Engineering, and Finance, comparing internal investment and capacity, fixed and variable cost, quality, intellectual property, speed, scalability, and continuity risk; document assumptions, sensitivities, recommendations, approvals, and post-decision results.

Prepare and lead Sourcing Council reviews with complete sourcing cases, alternatives, weighted supplier evaluations, total-cost economics, risks, recommendation, implementation plan, and approval record; do not place business before required cross-functional and delegated-authority approvals are complete.

Lead requests for information, quotation, and proposal; supplier due diligence; technical and commercial evaluation; negotiation; nomination; contracting; and transition using transparent requirements and competitive tension.

Apply total cost of ownership, should-cost and clean-sheet models, cost breakdown analysis, benchmarking, index-based pricing, design-to-value, and value analysis/value engineering to identify and sustain structural cost improvements.

Partner with Legal and stakeholders to establish agreements covering pricing, productivity, payment terms, capacity, tooling, intellectual property, quality, warranty, service, change control, confidentiality, compliance, and termination.

Segment the supplier portfolio and lead executive and quarterly business reviews for strategic suppliers using scorecards for delivery, quality, cost, capacity, innovation, sustainability, responsiveness, and risk; maintain owners, due dates, escalation paths, and verified closure for every material action.

Build and deliver a Finance-validated value pipeline covering purchased-cost reduction, purchase price variance, cost avoidance, payment terms, tooling and nonrecurring expense, freight, inventory, and other total-cost opportunities.

Lead commodity sourcing for new product introduction, including early supplier involvement, RFQ timing, source nomination, APQP/PPAP alignment, tooling and capacity readiness, and launch risk closure to support clear-to-build.

Own supply continuity for the commodity by identifying sole-source, capacity, financial, geopolitical, raw-material, quality, logistics, and compliance risks and implementing dual-source, localization, buffer, or contingency strategies.

Coordinate constraint, allocation, capacity, and long-lead recovery with Planning, Operations, Logistics, and suppliers; secure credible commits and escalate threats before production or customer impact.

Manage engineering-change, product-lifecycle, end-of-life, obsolescence, and last-time-buy commercial impacts while protecting continuity and minimizing excess, obsolete, and nonrecoverable inventory.

Maintain accurate approved-source, contract, pricing, supplier-master, ERP/MRP, tooling, forecast, and decision records; comply with ethical sourcing, conflict-of-interest, export, confidentiality, audit, and segregation-of-duties controls.

Lead cross-functional problem solving and continuous improvement using standard work, root-cause analysis, supplier development, lessons learned, and concise executive communication to improve sourcing speed and decision quality.

Travel 30% domestic and international.
