About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services.

The FCA’s Strategy Division sets the regulators long term direction, focusing on deepening trust, rebalancing risk, supporting Economic growth, and fighting financial crime through smarter, more efficient regulation.

The Strategy Department sits at the centre of the FCA and is responsible for informing the FCA's strategic thinking, supporting corporate prioritisation and helping ensure the successful delivery of the FCA's strategic objectives and outcomes. The team works closely with colleagues across the organisation, including senior leadership, to support decision-making on some of the FCA's most important strategic priorities. The department provides analysis, challenge and delivery support across a range of cross-cutting strategic initiatives and organisational priorities.

Role responsibilities

Play a leading role in the end-to-end delivery of the FCA’s Annual Work Programme and Annual Report, working with the publication lead on strategic planning, content development, governance and approval.

Shape clear, compelling and evidence-based strategic narratives, coordinating contributions from across the FCA and maintaining high standards across strategic outputs.

Work across the Strategy Department and wider FCA to support the development and delivery of the FCA’s strategy, translating strategic objectives into clear priorities, plans and intended outcomes.

Undertake strategic analysis and insight work, drawing together evidence, identifying implications and producing high-quality briefings and recommendations to support senior decision-making

Engage senior leaders and Executive committees to provide constructive challenge, test proposals and secure alignment and agreement on strategic priorities, publications and recommendations

Skills required

Minimum

Experience of leading or making a substantial contribution to corporate publications, public-facing papers or other high-profile documents, coordinating input from multiple stakeholders, resolving inconsistencies through sound judgement and effective communication, and maintaining quality under tight deadlines

Demonstrated analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to draw together evidence and insights, apply sound judgement, identify implications, and develop clear recommendations

Solid written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and build effective relationships with peers, specialists, and senior leaders

Essential

  • Ability to persuade and challenge constructively, using well-reasoned arguments to secure agreement from a range of stakeholders
  • Evidence of managing competing priorities, making sound judgements about what to prioritise and escalating risks or issues appropriately
  • Ability to adjust priorities and working approaches in response to changing requirements, emerging issues and feedback

Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Non-contributory pension (8–12% depending on age) and life assurance at eight times your salary
  • Private healthcare with Bupa, income protection, and 24/7 Employee Assistance
  • 35 hours of paid volunteering annually
  • Colleagues spend a minimum of 50% of their working time in the office each month (60% for Directors and Executive Directors) across our London, Leeds and Edinburgh offices
  • A flexible benefits scheme designed around your lifestyle
