FluidAI Healthcare/BioTech

Business Development Manager, Technology Diligence

Kitchener, Canada In person Full-time

Job Summary

We are looking for a Business Development Manager to lead technology diligence at FluidAI. The healthcare organizations we work with want the best clinical technology available, whether we license it, partner on it, acquire it, or build it ourselves. You will help decide which is right.

You will take a clinical or operational need, find the technologies that could meet it, and test whether they live up to their claims. The work combines software skills (reading the architecture, running the product, checking the data) with clinical judgement (does it fit the care workflow, and does the evidence hold up). When the answer is to license or partner, you will lead the conversation with the technology owner and shape the deal. You will work with FluidAI's engineering, clinical, and product teams and guide a Business Development Analyst.

Note: This role is based out of our Kitchener HQ in the Medical Innovation Xchange, with travel as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own technology assessments end to end, from scoping the question to a clear recommendation: license, partner, acquire, build, or pass.
  • Assess clinical evidence, technical architecture and integration, data, regulatory status, privacy and security, competitors, and commercial terms.
  • Design test plans and write test cases that check a technology's clinical and technical claims, including accuracy, performance across patient groups, integration, and failure modes. Review and interpret the results.
  • Get hands-on with the products being assessed: run demos and trials, review APIs and documentation, and work with the data.
  • Build licensing economics and deal structures, including pricing, revenue share, exclusivity, and integration cost.
  • Source and lead discussions with technology companies, startups, and university technology-transfer offices.
  • Work with FluidAI engineering and product on integration effort and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Run the opportunity pipeline and report regularly to leadership.
  • Guide and review the work of the Business Development Analyst.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 90 days, you have taken at least two technologies through full assessment, with a test plan and a clear decision, and set up a repeatable intake-to-decision process. In your first year, technologies you assessed are under signed licensing or partnership agreements and moving into deployment.

3+ years in technology assessment, business or corporate development, investment diligence, consulting, or a technical, clinical, or product role in health technology, including recommendations you made and defended.

Good software skills: comfortable reading technical documentation and APIs, running and testing software, and working with data (for example Python, SQL, or similar).

Good clinical knowledge: able to judge how a technology fits real care workflows and whether its clinical evidence holds up. This could come from clinical training, biomedical engineering, clinical research, or clinical product work.

Experience designing test plans or test cases, or validating a technical or clinical product.

Strong financial modelling, and experience leading external discussions to a decision.

Clear writing for executive audiences that separates confirmed fact from working assumption.

Nice To Have

  • Technology licensing, tech transfer, or partnership deal experience in healthcare.
  • Familiarity with medical-device and software-as-a-medical-device regulation (for example FDA or Health Canada).
  • Experience evaluating or validating clinical AI or machine-learning products.
  • Familiarity with health data standards (HL7, FHIR) and privacy and security requirements (HIPAA, PIPEDA).
  • A degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, health sciences, medicine, or a related field.
