At FranklinCovey, our mission is to enable greatness in people and organizations everywhere. The platforms we build are how that mission scales to reach learners, leaders, and enterprises across the globe. We're looking for a Director of Platform Engineering who leads with both technical depth and a commitment to shared success.

Job Summary

Reporting to the VP, Product Technology, you will lead the engineering teams building our learner and enterprise platforms and emerging AI experiences. Your focus sits across our individual platforms: setting an architecture vision, driving AI and data execution across the portfolio, and developing the engineering managers and teams who report to you. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Client Success, Sales, IT, and Cloud Ops to keep technical direction in lockstep with company strategy.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who builds trust before driving change, raises the bar on execution, and protects the autonomy and ownership that make great teams thrive.

Essential Job Functions

Set Architecture Direction

  • Own the cross-platform architecture strategy.
  • Define domain ownership, decision rights, and technical guardrails so teams work with clarity and accountability.
  • Apply a systems-level view of technical debt and risk to capacity investment decisions and recommend tradeoffs to leadership.
  • Lead AI and Data Execution
  • Own the engineering integration of AI into customer-facing platforms, including architecture, security, and governance, in close partnership with product strategy.
  • Design and deliver agent-facing services that make FranklinCovey capabilities available to AI agents in the flow of work, and own the data architecture behind AI features, reporting pipelines, and governance.

Develop Your Team

  • Directly manage and grow engineering managers and individual contributors, coaching careers, setting goals, and holding a consistent bar for performance and quality across every squad.
  • Own a cross-platform QA and test-automation strategy covering test coverage, CI gate criteria, and release readiness.
  • Create pathways of knowledge-sharing across teams.
  • Raise the Engineering Bar
  • Build on existing shared engineering foundations: code standards, CI/CD, incident response, SLAs/SLOs, and common tooling.
  • Ensure accessibility (WCAG/VPAT), localization, and compliance readiness are consistent across content and UI.
  • Partner with IT and Cloud Ops on cloud migrations, vulnerability management, and audit readiness (e.g. SOCII).
  • Deliver and Partner
  • Own portfolio outcomes across roadmap, execution, and reliability, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health.
  • Sharpen estimation, capacity planning, and sprint readiness so teams can commit and deliver predictably.
  • Represent engineering and AI to executives, customers, and prospects, and collaborate on the engineering budget and headcount case through annual planning.
  • Travel: Occasional team or on-site planning (<10%)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, technology delivery or other related experience
  • 5+ years leading managers and multi-team programs

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience leading the design and delivery of a production MCP server (or equivalent tool-calling integration) that connects LLM-powered agents to enterprise data and services, including authentication, security, evaluation, and observability
  • Deep familiarity with LLM-powered systems, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool use, and multi-agent coordination
  • Experience building MCP Apps, interactive UI experiences delivered inside AI clients such as Claude and ChatGPT
  • Experience with Javasript, Python, C#, React, Django, .NET and AWS
  • Experience architecting and executing a data strategy across products or platforms Leading multi-team enterprise SaaS programs managing both managers and individual contributors
  • Collaboration with IT/SecOps on security, compliance, and cloud infrastructure
  • Strong hiring, coaching, and performance management; experience developing engineering leaders with clear domain ownership and decision rights
  • Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives and customers
  • Familiarity with learning platforms, content delivery, or enterprise admin tooling (multi-tenant SaaS and accessibility/localization)
  • Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, HSA, employee stock purchasing program, 401(k), paid time off, holiday pay, and more. Please visit https://franklincoveybenefits.com/ for details.
  • *Actual offer may be outside of this range and will be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data.
