Position Overview Futurex is seeking a hands-on Hardware Integration & Test Engineer II to support testing, troubleshooting, firmware provisioning, and system integration of hardware security modules (HSMs) and cryptographic appliances. This position takes printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) received from contract manufacturers through hardware validation, firmware installation, chassis integration, and final functional testing.
Strong electronics troubleshooting and practical problem-solving are essential. Software development or programming experience is not required. About Futurex Futurex provides enterprise cryptographic security solutions, including hardware security modules, key management systems, and secure cryptographic infrastructure. Our engineering and operations teams collaborate to develop, manufacture, and deliver reliable security products.
Key Responsibilities PCB Testing & Hardware Troubleshooting · Inspect, test, and validate PCB assemblies received from contract manufacturers. · Perform initial power-on, board-level functional testing, and diagnostics. · Diagnose hardware failures at board, component, and system levels; perform soldering, component replacement, and PCB rework. · Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and schematics to isolate faults. · Document manufacturing defects, recurring failures, and findings for engineering teams.
Firmware Loading & Device Configuration · Load, configure, sign, and verify HSM firmware using approved tools and secure procedures. · Perform firmware updates, device initialization, and functional verification. · Troubleshoot firmware loading, boot, and initialization issues using diagnostic utilities, logs, and command-line tools. · Collaborate with firmware/software engineers when failures require development-level investigation.
Hardware Integration & System Assembly · Install tested PCBAs into server chassis and HSM appliance configurations. · Integrate power, cooling, storage, cabling, and associated hardware components. · Perform system bring-up, configuration, final functional testing, and production-release verification. · Diagnose integration issues involving hardware interfaces, electrical connections, and device configuration. Engineering Support & Improvement · Investigate failures independently, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions. · Coordinate with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and contract manufacturing teams. · Support new product introductions, hardware revisions, and firmware releases. · Maintain test procedures, troubleshooting guides, and production records; improve test coverage and efficiency.
Required Qualifications · Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics technology, computer engineering, or related discipline; equivalent professional or military electronics experience considered. · 3+ years of hands-on electronics testing, PCB troubleshooting, hardware integration, or related technical experience. · Practical knowledge of electronic circuits, PCB assemblies, soldering/rework, and electronic test equipment. · Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot independently. · Experience assembling, testing, or repairing electronic systems, computer hardware, or server equipment. · Familiarity with firmware loading or device configuration, or demonstrated aptitude to learn established processes. · Clear technical communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications · Experience with embedded systems, industrial electronics, networking equipment, or server-class hardware. · Familiarity with Linux, command-line diagnostics, bootloaders, and firmware provisioning. · Understanding of SPI, I2C, UART, USB, PCIe, or Ethernet interfaces. · Exposure to secure boot, firmware signing, cryptographic hardware, or HSMs. · Familiarity with IPC soldering standards, contract manufacturing, and failure analysis. · Python, Bash, C/C++, or test automation exposure is a plus—not a requirement.
Ideal Candidate A hands-on electronics professional who can receive a newly manufactured PCB assembly, assess its condition, troubleshoot and repair failures, load approved firmware, integrate it into an appliance, and validate the completed system. Candidates from electronics testing, hardware repair, embedded-device manufacturing, server integration, or military electronics maintenance are encouraged to apply. Practical technical ability matters more than coding experience or a particular educational path.
