Lead Engineer - Electronic Hardware

Jacksonville, FL In person Full-time

Location: Jacksonville

Job Description Summary

Unison, a GE Aerospace company, is the leading provider of differentiated engine controls, accessories, and performance monitoring solutions in the Aerospace, Defense & Space segments. Serving both original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket customers, Unison designs, manufactures and supplies the most advanced components and systems in the world.

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer to support hardware with a focus on PCB-based RF and power electronics, including transformer and converter design, testing, and repair. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience working with electronic assemblies, combining hands-on lab skills with strong documentation, drawing interpretation, and structured root cause analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • PCB, RF, and Power Electronics Design Support
  • Support and review PCB layouts that incorporate RF and power electronics circuits, including component placement, routing, and grounding/shielding practices.
  • Contribute to design and analysis of power stages (e.g., converters, inverters, rectifiers, filters) and associated magnetics/transformers to meet performance, efficiency, and thermal requirements.
  • Review electrical schematics, PCB fabrication/assembly drawings, and BOMs for RF and power electronics designs; recommend improvements for manufacturability, testability, and reliability.
  • Testing, Troubleshooting, and Repair
  • Develop and execute test plans for RF and power electronics assemblies, including board-level and system-level verification.
  • Perform bench-level troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other test equipment.
  • Diagnose failures in RF paths, power stages, and transformers; support repair activities and component replacements.
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis (e.g., fault tree, 5 Whys, data reviews) for recurring hardware and test issues and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Technical Writing and Reporting
  • Prepare clear technical reports documenting test results, failure investigations, and corrective actions for RF and power electronics hardware.
  • Create and maintain test procedures, repair guides, and engineering change documentation.
  • Communicate complex technical findings to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

Requirements, Standards, and Interfaces

  • Interpret electrical schematics, RF block diagrams, PCB layouts, and transformer drawings.
  • Apply relevant specifications and industry/military standards to RF and power electronics design, test methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with design, test lab, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams on component selection, obsolescence, alternates, and last-time buys for RF/power components and magnetics.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 3 years of electronics engineering focused on PCB-based RF or power electronics design, testing, and/or repair experience, OR; A High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 7 years of electronics engineering focused on PCB-based RF or power electronics design, testing, and/or repair experience.

Key Competencies

  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and testing RF and power electronics circuits using appropriate lab equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, PCB drawings, and transformer/magnetics documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience with structured root cause analysis and technical report writing.
  • Strong analytical skills for RF and power electronics behavior and failure modes.
  • Clear, concise communication and documentation.
  • Attention to detail in drawings, specifications, and test data.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on strengthening design robustness, test coverage, and repair efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability electronics environments.
  • Background in transformer and magnetic component design (core selection, winding design, insulation, thermal considerations).
  • Familiarity with RF matching, filtering, and EMC considerations on PCBs.
  • Experience using SPICE-based tools for circuit simulation and analysis (e.g., LTspice, PSpice, or similar).
  • Experience with configuration/change management systems and component obsolescence management.
  • Experience collaborating with test labs and cross-functional engineering/manufacturing teams.
