Advanced Lead Engineer - Project Management

Grand Rapids, MI In person Full-time

Location: Grand Rapids

Job Description Summary

The Civil Platforms team is looking for an Engineering Project Manager (EPM) to lead our Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) and Platform Systems projects. You will own engineering execution from proposal through certification and delivery, provide business and technical direction to a cross-functional Integrated Project Team (IPT), and mentor Deputy EPMs.

You will have end-to-end accountability for scope, cost, schedule, risk, and quality. That includes managing the critical path and dependencies, connecting each project to the Avionics technology roadmap and strategic business goals, and running the project with the FLIGHT DECK operating model. You will build and maintain deep expertise in our Civil Computing System (CCS) products.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the IPT developing IMA products. Set and communicate business goals to team members and key stakeholders, and own project performance from launch to closure.
  • Plan and execute projects across scope, schedule, cost, technical, risk, and quality. Build and maintain the integrated master schedule, manage the critical path and downstream tasks, and resolve cross-project dependencies.
  • Own the project financials. Establish and maintain EVM baselines, analyze CPI/SPI and variances, forecast estimate-at-completion (EAC), and drive recovery plans when performance slips.
  • Lead project estimating, bidding, and proposal development, including basis-of-estimate, cost walks, change requests, and contract negotiations support.
  • Work with Systems and Technical Leads to set and manage KPIs, and drive daily management and problem solving through FLIGHT DECK (tier boards, Kaizen, and standard work).
  • Act as the primary engineering interface to the customer. Communicate clearly, represent their concerns inside the team, and resolve issues in line with our mission, values, and financial objectives.
  • Present project status, metrics, and risks to program, business, and engineering leadership and to external customers, including at executive and gate reviews.
  • Serve as a technical and financial leader across global, cross-functional teams (program management, systems, software, hardware, safety, certification, and applications engineering) to ensure “cradle to grave” success.
  • Coach and develop Deputy EPMs and project team members, and contribute to improving EPM processes and tools across the Avionics organization.
  • Build strong relationships with internal support organizations and target accounts, and identify customer needs and growth opportunities.
  • Travel to customer and partner sites as needed (approximately 10–20%).
