About the interview: Interviewing for a marketing role at GlideThank you for taking the time to learn more about Glide’s interview process.Glide’s marketing team is small but mighty.
We’re looking for subject matter experts in a particular area who can also act as generalists when needed. People who aren’t afraid to learn a new tool, hop on a customer call, send an email, write some social media copy, or make deductions through data analysis. We need marketing leaders with a bias for action, a strong sense of ownership and autonomy, and the ability to collaborate with other teams. Our interview process is designed to find these kinds of marketers.
Below is what to expect in our interview process. If you have questions, email me [email protected] Check CallThis stage is a more informal call to get to know more about the role, and for you to evaluate whether it’s a good fit for you. As an early-stage startup with a relatively smaller team, we are looking for people with strong abilities to execute, not just delegate and manage.Additionally, we’re a small team today but are highly likely to scale.
This means there will eventually be opportunities to grow in the role, and hire direct reports to support your work as Glide expands. In this call, you’re welcome to ask lots of questions about whether working at Glide makes sense for you.First Interview: Technical & Strategic MarketingOur first interview is focused on your technical skillset and strategic approach to marketing. This interview lasts 1 hour. During the first 45 minutes, 1-2 interviewers from the Glide team will ask you around 10 questions that aim to ascertain your experience, understanding, and opinion on relevant marketing functions.
These questions are not aimed to trick you, do not have one single ‘right’ answer, and are not weighted or calculated via a points system. Marketing is a fluid discipline, and we’re looking for indications of how you think about certain topics. This is not an exam that grades you based on correctness.During the remaining 15 minutes, you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you can about Glide, the team, and the role.
This is also an opportunity for you to interview us to dig deeper into whether Glide is the right fit for you. It is not just a formality. We’re eager for your questions!Second Interview: Marketing CollaborationA lot of the work we do on the marketing team requires close collaboration with the broader team of product managers, engineers, salespeople, experts, and more. To this end, the next step in our process is for you to have an interview with a member of the Glide team who works in another area of the business, with close ties to marketing. They’ll dive deep into your own background/interests in working at Glide.
As well as some more technical questions that relate to the cross-section between your role and their own. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about Glide and how other functions work here. As always, come prepared with great questions!Short Assignment & Follow-up CallIt’s one thing to talk shop, but actually rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty with a marketing assignment provides us with a much more in-depth look at your capabilities and your approach. That’s why we believe in providing candidates who make it past the first two interviews with a brief “homework” assignment.
This assignment will generally involve 2-3 parts, andshould only take you 1-2 hours to complete. We are not looking for high craft or polish, but to learn how you think about problems, and how you might approach solving them on the job.We are aware that your time is precious, so there is no expectation that you spend more than 2 hours on this assignment. The amount of time spent on a project does not directly correlate with the probability of receiving a job offer letter.
Please keep that in mind. This assignment will generally be shared with you via a Google Doc. You can complete the assignment right there in the document, or if you prefer to work in a slide deck, Notion doc, or something else, that’s totally fine.Once the assignment is done, you can email it back to the hiring manager ([email protected]). Upon receipt and review, the hiring manager will schedule a 30-minute call with you to discuss the assignment and ask you some additional questions.Call with David Siegel, Glide’s CEOThis is an informal step in the process, and will only be scheduled if you are offered the role and choose to accept it.Our CEO is deeply connected to all the different departments at Glide, and makes a point of meeting with every new hire prior to their start date.
While it can feel intimidating to have to speak to the CEO, rest assured that David just wants to meet you and find out what excites you about Marketing, startups, and Glide. Be prepared to answer questions like: “What’s something you’ve built that you’re proud of?” or “Who do you look up to in the Marketing space?”Your role at Glide will begin shortly after this 1:1 meeting with David.TimingThe typical interview process takes 2-4 weeks from start to finish, with some outliers and exceptions.
We are happy to accommodate candidates who might have a short timeline or competing offers. The more information you can share about your situation and where you are in the process, the more we can either attempt to expedite/match or save you time if we cannot.
