Job Summary
Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health’s Center for Health Communication equips public health leaders to credibly communicate health information to an increasingly skeptical and fragmented world. Our mission: to define, teach, and share best practice in health and science communication.
The Center’s Creator Program equips creators with accurate, evidence-based health information so they can show up for their audiences with clarity, credibility, and care. Nearly 1,000 creators have joined the program, which offers educational resources, events, expert connections, and a growing online community. A Creator Advisory Board helps ensure that the program remains responsive to creators’ needs and grounded in the realities of their work.
We’re looking for a Senior Manager of Creator Community and Engagement to grow, activate, and strengthen the Creator Program’s community.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
The Senior Manager will lead the identification and recruitment of creators from a broad range of backgrounds, help existing program participants become active members of the Center’s online creator community, and build lasting relationships that make the Creator Program a trusted and valuable resource.
Drawing on a deep understanding of short-form video creators and the broader creator economy, the Senior Manager will design engagement strategies that reflect creators’ motivations, workflows, pressures, and relationships with their audiences. They will work closely with the Creator Advisory Board and Center colleagues to shape the program’s resources, virtual gatherings, annual in-person summit, and other forms of support.
The Senior Manager will also own and continually improve the program’s creator database. In partnership with the Center’s research team, they will strengthen data collection, tracking, and reporting; help automate the responsible collection of information from the community platform and relevant social media platforms; and use resulting insights to improve recruitment, engagement, retention, and long-term relationship-building.
Responsibilities include
- Recruit creators to our community, including via ecosystem partnerships
- Develop, manage, and execute a recruitment strategy that inspires hundreds more creators to join the Creator Program.
- Identify, cultivate, and recruit creators representing a broad range of health interests, communities, platforms, audience sizes, professional backgrounds, and lived experiences.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective creators, moving them from initial outreach through enrollment and active participation.
- Develop authentic, tailored recruitment approaches for different creator communities.
- Cultivate relationships with creator networks, platforms, agencies, professional associations, and other organizations that can extend the program’s reach and relevance.
- Represent the Creator Program externally and serve as a credible ambassador for its mission and offerings.
- Identify opportunities for current participants, advisory board members, and alumni to serve as program ambassadors and referral partners.
- Activate and engage our creator community
- Lead efforts to onboard existing Creator Program participants to the Center’s new online community platform.
- Design onboarding journeys, outreach campaigns, and personalized interventions that move creators from enrollment to meaningful participation.
- Develop and manage an ongoing rhythm of community activity that gives creators compelling reasons to participate and return.
- Create opportunities for peer learning, exchange, collaboration, and relationship-building across a diverse creator community.
- Monitor participation and identify where creators encounter barriers, become inactive, or disengage.
- Test and refine strategies to improve activation, repeat participation, retention, and creators’ sense of belonging.
- Ensure that community engagement is distributed broadly rather than concentrated among a small group of highly active participants.
- Maintain creator relationships and provide support
- Serve as a visible, trusted, and responsive point of contact for creators across program cohorts.
- Build sustained relationships with current participants, alumni, creator advisors, and other members of the creator ecosystem.
- Develop a nuanced understanding of creators’ needs, goals, pressures, and ways of working.
- Offer tailored guidance and connect creators with relevant Center resources, experts, peers, and learning opportunities.
- Help creators navigate the opportunities and challenges involved in communicating about complex, sensitive, or contested health topics while respecting their voice, independence, and relationship with their audiences.
- Identify emerging creator needs and bring those insights into the Center’s strategy, educational offerings, and research.
- Oversee creator database and insights
- Own and continually improve the Creator Program’s creator database, ensuring that it serves as the authoritative record of creator relationships, participation, and engagement.
- Assess the existing database and develop a roadmap for improving its structure, usability, data quality, segmentation, and reporting capabilities.
- Define and maintain consistent processes for recording creator profiles, interests, expertise, platforms, audience characteristics, outreach, program history, and engagement.
- Build a comprehensive view of the creator journey, from prospect and applicant through enrollment, onboarding, active participation, and alumni engagement.
- Partner with the Center’s research team to define meaningful measures of recruitment, activation, engagement, retention, and reach.
- Work with research and technical colleagues to automate responsible data collection from the community platform and relevant social media platforms and to develop useful dashboards and reports.
- Translate findings into practical improvements to recruitment, programming, community engagement, and creator support.
- Contribute to creator-informed programming and events
- Work closely with the Creator Advisory Board to ensure that the program remains relevant, useful, and grounded in creators’ experiences.
- Co-design toolkits, playbooks, virtual community calls, and other creator-facing supports.
- Help shape the goals, content, and participant experience for the Creator Program’s annual in-person summit.
- Partner with the Program Manager and other Center colleagues to translate creator needs into educational resources and programming.
- Recruit creators to participate in events and support strong attendance and engagement before, during, and after each experience.
- Gather creator feedback and use it to improve future programming.
- Perform other related duties that advance the Creator Program’s goals.
