Job Description

The Opportunity

As an HVDC Tender Controller, you will play a key role in shaping commercially successful and financially robust tender opportunities within Hitachi Energy's HVDC business. Acting as the finance partner to Tender Managers and Capture Leads, you will support the development of winning bids by driving project costing, pricing strategy, cash flow optimization, and commercial risk assessments throughout the tender lifecycle.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a highly collaborative and international environment, partnering with Engineering, Project Management, Commercial, Planning, Operations, and Finance teams. You will be responsible for transforming technical and commercial inputs into competitive customer proposals while ensuring profitability, compliance, and effective risk management.

You will lead financial evaluations, develop tender cost models, assess contractual risks, and provide commercial insights that influence strategic business decisions. Working on complex HVDC and EPC opportunities, you will help ensure that tender submissions balance competitiveness with sustainable financial outcomes.

Success in this position requires strong analytical capabilities, commercial acumen, and the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders. If you enjoy combining finance expertise with business partnering and commercial strategy in a fast-paced project environment, this role offers excellent exposure to large-scale energy infrastructure projects that contribute directly to the global energy transition.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Partner with Tender Managers and Capture Leads as the primary finance representative for assigned tender opportunities.
  • Develop comprehensive project costing models, financial evaluations, and pricing strategies to support competitive bid submissions.
  • Consolidate cost estimates from multiple functions and translate them into commercially viable customer proposals.
  • Drive profitability analysis, margin optimization, and business case evaluations to support decision-making.
  • Prepare and maintain tender cash flow forecasts based on project schedules, cost structures, and contractual payment terms.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial, contractual, financial, foreign exchange, and cash flow risks.
  • Review General Conditions of Contract (GCC) and Special Conditions of Contract (SCC) to safeguard business interests.
  • Support tender reviews, governance approvals, customer negotiations, and management presentations with financial insights and recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Commercial, Planning, Project Management, and Operations teams to ensure aligned tender strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial governance processes, risk management frameworks, and commercial policies.

Your Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or related discipline. CA, CMA, or MBA (Finance) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Tender Controlling, Bid Finance, Commercial Finance, Project Controlling, or Bid Management roles.
  • Strong expertise in project costing, financial modelling, pricing strategy, profitability analysis, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Good understanding of contract management, including GCC, SCC, bank guarantees, commercial terms, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience in foreign exchange calculations, inflation/escalation modelling, and commercial risk management.
  • Exposure to EPC, Power, Energy, HVDC, Infrastructure, Industrial, or Engineering project environments.
  • Proficiency in SAP, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and business partnering skills with the ability to influence decision-making.
