The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced and recognized power systems expert to join the Global Market Innovation team. In this strategic leadership role, you will help drive the market-based approach for utility-related solutions, shaping solution roadmaps, value propositions, partnerships, customer engagement strategies, and business growth initiatives.

As a key member of the Market Innovation organization, you will collaborate closely with the Innovation Incubator, Sales, Marketing, Business Units, and country organizations to ensure a coordinated market approach that supports sustainable growth and strengthens Hitachi Energy’s position as an industry leader. A significant part of the role involves supporting innovation initiatives and market development through techno-economic analyses and strategic advisory activities.

Based in the United States, one of Hitachi Energy’s most important lead markets, you will work closely with the North American organization while influencing industry direction through engagement with customers, regulators, policymakers, and professional associations. You will represent Hitachi Energy externally at senior industry forums and institutional working groups, helping shape the future of the power sector while driving awareness and alignment internally.

How you will make an impact

Market Innovation Leadership: Support the development and execution of solution roadmaps, value propositions, partnerships, and growth initiatives that strengthen Hitachi Energy’s market position and create long-term value.

Techno-Economic Analysis: Lead and deliver techno-economic analyses to support Innovation Incubator projects, working closely with the Power Systems of the Future workstream within Market Innovation.

Strategic Advisory Support: Collaborate with the US Power Consulting team, contributing expertise to strategic advisory projects and helping customers address future grid challenges.

Industry Representation: Represent Hitachi Energy through participation in industry associations, institutional working groups, conferences, speaking engagements, and professional networks, including organizations such as IEEE and CIGRE.

Thought Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert on key grid technologies, transmission and distribution systems, and emerging industry trends, influencing market direction through technical expertise and stakeholder engagement.

Policy & External Influence: Leverage professional expertise and industry relationships to influence external organizations, regulatory discussions, and the broader policy environment.

Value Proposition Development: Ensure compelling customer value propositions are created, maintained, and effectively communicated across stakeholders, supporting market growth and business objectives.

Business Model Innovation: Advance Hitachi Energy’s ability to deliver innovative business models by identifying customer value drivers and developing approaches to educate, advise, and capture value.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with North American country management teams, business units, and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities and maximize business impact.

Knowledge Sharing & Results Delivery: Document and communicate tangible outcomes related to innovation initiatives, market development, roadmap creation, strategic partnerships, product launches, successful projects, and cross-functional collaboration.

Your background

  • Master’s degree required, preferably in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the power network industry, ideally spanning both transmission and distribution systems, with particular expertise in transmission networks.

  • Recognized industry expert with a strong reputation and professional credibility within the power sector.
  • Strong technical, commercial, and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Extensive professional network within the utility and network operator community, particularly in North America; international industry connections are highly valued.
  • Proven ability to bring together cross-functional teams to explore, develop, and pursue complex strategic opportunities.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage structured processes, communicate progress effectively, and educate stakeholders while incorporating feedback and insights.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to connect technology, customer needs, and commercial value creation.
