Job Summary
The Enterprise Technology Costing Architect owns the end-to-end enterprise technology architecture for Costing, translating the approved Costing business solution blueprint into an integrated, scalable, secure and sustainable technology architecture across applications, data, integration, platforms and downstream systems.
The role ensures that technology decisions across SAP S/4HANA, SAP PaPM, data platforms, integration technologies, analytics and downstream solutions operate as one coherent enterprise architecture rather than a collection of locally optimized solutions.
The architect protects architectural coherence, enterprise standards, reuse, scalability and long-term technology sustainability, while providing architecture assurance from solution design through implementation, deployment and transition to run.
The role works in close partnership with the Costing Business Solution Architect, Enterprise Architecture, Digital teams, solution/platform architects, technology owners and implementation partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Enterprise Costing Technology Architecture
- Own and maintain the E2E target technology architecture and technology roadmap for Costing.
- Translate the approved business solution blueprint and required business capabilities into the target technology architecture.
- Define how applications, platforms, data, integrations and downstream systems work together as one enterprise costing technology ecosystem.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles, security requirements and technology standards.
- Lead architecture reviews and technology design decisions that materially affect the E2E Costing architecture.
- Application & Platform Architecture
- Own the target application/system architecture across the Costing technology landscape.
- Determine how approved Costing capabilities should be enabled across SAP S/4HANA, SAP PaPM, analytics, data platforms, integration platforms and supporting/downstream applications.
- Drive architectural reuse and rationalization, avoiding unnecessary duplication or technology fragmentation.
- Evaluate technology options based on architectural fit, scalability, maintainability, reuse and enterprise sustainability.
- Assess emerging technologies, including AI and automation, where they can enable the approved Costing business solution.
- Data & Integration Architecture
- Own the architecture for costing data movement, storage, integration and consumption.
- Define E2E integration architecture, interface patterns and technology dependencies across ERP, Supply Chain, Product, Finance, data platforms and downstream systems.
- Ensure architectural support for required data quality, traceability, reconciliation and auditability.
- Partner with business/data owners to ensure the technology architecture supports defined business information requirements and semantics.
- Architecture Governance & Design Assurance
- Establish and apply architecture principles, standards, patterns and technology guardrails for Costing.
- Ensure solution designs comply with the approved enterprise technology architecture.
- Lead/challenge decisions that alter the Costing technology architecture, integration model, platform strategy or technical standards.
- Manage architectural risks, technical debt and architecture exceptions.
- Provide architecture assurance throughout detailed design, build, testing, deployment and transition to run.
- Cross-Technology Coherence
- Prevent individual technology decisions across SAP, PaPM, data, integration, reporting and downstream systems from creating fragmented architecture.
- Identify cross-system dependencies and architectural impacts early in solution design.
- Ensure individual solution/platform designs collectively deliver the approved E2E business solution.
- Work with Enterprise Architecture and relevant technology owners to resolve cross-domain architecture decisions.
- Transformation & Vendor Architecture Leadership
- Provide E2E technology architecture leadership throughout the Costing Transformation.
- Challenge implementation partner and vendor designs against the approved business solution, enterprise architecture and long-term technology strategy.
- Evaluate alternative solution options and innovations proposed by partners based on technical feasibility, architectural fit, enterprise reuse, scalability and sustainability.
- Ensure the company retains long-term architectural ownership rather than allowing architecture to become vendor defined.
- Maintain technical continuity from architecture → detailed solution design → build → deployment → run.
