Ready to set global standards for wholesale problem exposure oversight?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

This is a senior opportunity within Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) to own HSBC’s global problem exposure management and deterioration oversight framework. You’ll design and continuously develop the wholesale Watch, Worry and Monitor (WWM) framework, setting minimum standards, management information and effectiveness assessment across regions and businesses. The role turns macroeconomic, sector, portfolio and single-name insights into decisive portfolio actions that support sustainable growth, risk-adjusted returns, capital efficiency and regulatory resilience.

You’ll also shape client risk-profiling and the Early Warning Indicator (EWI) platform to strengthen timely identification of emerging and deteriorating risk. Success means earlier and more consistent escalation, clearer decisions with accountable actions and forward-looking insight that improves portfolio transparency and capital deployment. The role is based in London and reports to the Global Head of Core Portfolio Management.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the global approach to problem exposure management and first-line portfolio and credit-risk strategy for deteriorating and heightened-risk exposures across CIB
  • Translate macroeconomic, sector, portfolio and single-name insights into portfolio recommendations and strategic interventions
  • Balance growth, risk, return, concentration, capital consumption and financial-resource considerations in portfolio steering
  • Partner with Distribution, Coverage and Risk to execute optimisation opportunities including distribution, restructuring, de-risking and other risk-mitigation actions
  • Establish global minimum standards for WWM identification, referral, risk profiling, review frequency, escalation, action ownership and exit criteria
  • Design decision-oriented management information on WWM populations and movements, exposure and risk trends, deterioration drivers and action outcomes
  • Chair global senior governance forums including the Global WWM Oversight Meeting and provide concise forward-looking papers for decision-making
  • Shape client risk-profiling and transform EWI tools and processes with Transformation, Data, Technology and CCM Quants teams
  • Champion advanced analytics and appropriate AI-enabled capabilities to improve predictive risk insight and management decision-making
  • Strengthen controls and operating effectiveness for credit-monitoring-related processes aligned to evolving regulatory expectations

What we're looking for

Bring extensive experience in wholesale banking, credit risk, portfolio management, coverage, problem credit management or a related discipline

Demonstrate ownership of global or cross-business frameworks, transformation initiatives or complex strategic programmes

Show hands-on experience designing or operating WWM, EWI, client risk-profiling or credit-monitoring frameworks

Apply strong commercial and risk judgement across growth, risk, return, concentration and capital efficiency trade-offs

Convert complex portfolio and risk information into practical recommendations and decision-ready management information

Operate effectively in senior governance, oversight and escalation forums with strong documentation and control discipline

Partner across Business, CCM, SCU, Credit, Coverage, Finance, COO and Transformation, Data and Technology stakeholders to align decisions and actions

Manage multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams and build capability in monitoring, analytics, governance and transformation

Global oversight that changes outcomes

This role shapes how CIB identifies, escalates and acts on emerging and deteriorating credit risk worldwide. You’ll set standards that enable timely local decisions while strengthening global consistency and oversight. The work directly improves the pace and quality of portfolio actions from remediation through to distribution and restructuring. If you’re ready to own a framework that influences decisions across regions and businesses we’d like to hear from you.
