The Opportunity

This role sits within CF Finance IT Data in Group Functions Technology, helping modernise applications and data services used in a large global banking environment. You’ll contribute to the technical direction and roadmap for improving scalability, security, maintainability and operational reliability. The focus is on building and evolving cloud-native services using Python microservices and Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery.

You’ll work across backend services, APIs and event-driven patterns with support for React-based micro-frontends where needed. Success means delivering secure, observable services and data solutions with appropriate cost controls and clear outcomes for stakeholders. You’ll also apply engineering standards consistently and use AI tooling responsibly to improve quality and productivity.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist

What you'll be doing

• Shape the technical direction and roadmap for modernising applications across the Finance IT Data domain
• Design and develop Python-based microservices, APIs and event-driven solutions
• Build scalable data solutions using BigQuery and other Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services with security and cost controls
• Develop React-based micro-frontends and integrate them with backend services
• Embed engineering standards across architecture, coding, testing, observability, continuous integration and continuous delivery
• Modernise legacy systems using cloud-native patterns, reusable components automation and incremental migration approaches
• Apply AI tools including GitHub Copilot and Claude responsibly to improve development, testing documentation and problem-solving
• Partner with engineers product architecture operations and business stakeholders to deliver secure measurable outcomes

What we're looking for

Bring proven experience designing and developing enterprise-grade backend applications and microservices using Python

Demonstrate strong knowledge of BigQuery and GCP services including data modelling performance optimisation security and cost management

Show experience modernising complex or legacy systems using cloud-native architecture approaches

Apply a strong understanding of APIs distributed systems event-driven architecture automated testing observability and secure engineering

Bring hands-on experience with React and micro-frontend architecture including modular design and backend integration

Use engineering standards and GitHub workflows for version control code review and automated delivery

Demonstrate experience using GitHub Copilot Claude or similar AI tools responsibly to improve productivity and quality

Contribute technical leadership through architectural input colleague support stakeholder engagement and translating business needs into sustainable solutions
