Responsibilities

The Head of Tax Provision owns Intuit’s global income tax accounting function under ASC 740 — the quarterly and annual provision process, effective tax rate (ETR) forecasting, and the financial statement disclosures that follow. This role is the primary tax accounting liaison to the Controller’s organization, external auditors, and the Audit Committee, and is accountable for the accuracy, timeliness, and SOX-compliant control environment underpinning global tax reporting. The ideal candidate pairs deep ASC 740 technical command with the ability to operate at the pace and complexity of a large, multinational technology enterprise.

Global Tax Provision & Reporting

  • Own the end-to-end global quarterly and annual income tax provision under ASC 740 — consolidating current and deferred tax across all legal entities and jurisdictions
  • Direct ETR calculation, forecasting, and variance analysis; present ETR drivers and sensitivities to senior Finance leadership
  • Oversee return-to-provision true-ups, valuation allowance analysis, uncertain tax position documentation (ASC 740-10/FIN 48), and indefinite reinvestment assertions (APB 23)
  • Manage tax accounting for stock-based compensation, R&D capitalization (§174), GILTI/Subpart F, FDII, BEAT, Pillar Two (GloBE), and other US international and OECD-driven provisions
  • Prepare and review income tax footnotes, MD&A tax disclosures, and rate reconciliation schedules for 10-K/10-Q filings

SOX & Internal Controls

  • Serve as control owner for all tax accounting SOX key controls — maintaining documentation, testing evidence, and remediation plans
  • Partner with Internal Audit and external auditors on control walkthroughs, PBC lists, and provision-to-return reconciliations
  • Drive continuous improvement in control design as the business scales and enters new jurisdictions

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as primary tax accounting liaison to the Controller, FP&A, Treasury, and SEC Reporting teams during close cycles
  • Present provision results, ETR outlook, and technical positions to the Audit Committee and executive leadership
  • Partner with Transfer Pricing, Tax Planning, and International Tax to ensure tax accounting reflects current structuring, legal entity changes, and M&A activity
  • Coordinate with external auditors (Big 4) on quarterly reviews and the annual provision audit

Tax Technology & Process

  • Own and optimize the tax provision technology stack — driving automation and data integrity improvements
  • Lead process transformation to reduce close-cycle time, strengthen auditability, and scale the provision process for growth, acquisitions, and entity restructurings
  • Champion integration between provision systems, ERP (SAP, Oracle), and compliance platforms

People Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and manage a team of tax accounting professionals — Managers, Seniors, and Analysts
  • Set team objectives, conduct performance reviews, and develop technical training on ASC 740 and emerging standards
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA required
  • Masters in taxation or JD/LLM
  • 5+ years of experience heading up the tax provision function at a large multinational company in high tech.
  • 15+ years of progressive tax accounting experience, including significant time in a public company or Big 4 national tax office
  • Deep, hands-on ASC 740 expertise — complex multinational provisions, uncertain tax positions, and valuation allowance analysis
  • Experience with SEC reporting requirements and SOX 404 control environments
  • Strong command of US international tax concepts (GILTI, FDII, BEAT, Subpart F) and their financial statement impact
  • Experience presenting to senior finance leadership and external auditors
  • People management experience with a demonstrated ability to build and develop high-performing teams

Preferred

  • Experience in a high-growth technology or SaaS multinational environment
  • M&A tax accounting experience — purchase accounting and integration of acquired entities into the provision process
  • Exposure to transfer pricing concepts and their interplay with tax accounting

Key Competencies

Technical mastery — command of ASC 740 sufficient to resolve novel, judgment-intensive issues independently

Executive presence — distills complex tax accounting matters into clear narratives for non-tax executives and the Audit Committee

Operational rigor — owns a control-intensive, deadline-driven close process at scale

Change leadership — drives process and technology transformation in a fast-evolving business

Cross-functional influence — partners effectively across Controllership, FP&A, Legal, and international tax planning
