The Role

We are looking for a Lead Accountant to join our US Accounting Team. As a Lead Accountant, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.

In this role, you will own the monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidation of IonQ's growing portfolio of domestic and international legal entities. This is a hands-on, player-coach position. You will run the consolidated close and prepare the consolidated financial results yourself. You will also build the processes, systems, and controls needed to consolidate a fast-growing group of acquired businesses on an accelerated public-company timeline. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of consolidation, foreign currency, and business combination accounting with strong command of consolidation systems and a drive to shorten the close.

Responsibilities

Consolidated Close & Reporting

Consolidated Close Ownership: Own the end-to-end consolidated close calendar across all IonQ legal entities. This includes running the corporate close call, tracking subsidiary deliverables and dependencies, and escalating issues that put the timeline at risk.

Subsidiary Reporting Packages: Set requirements for subsidiary trial balance and reporting packages, then manage their collection and review. Validate completeness, account mapping, and consistency with corporate accounting policies before data is loaded for consolidation.

Consolidation Execution: Prepare and review consolidation entries, including top-side adjustments, investment eliminations, and equity roll-forwards. Review the intercompany eliminations prepared by the Intercompany Accounting team to confirm the consolidated balances are complete and fully eliminated.

Consolidated Financial Analysis: Prepare consolidated trial balances, financial statements, and flux analyses. Investigate and explain significant movements for leadership, SEC Reporting, and FP&A.

Consolidation, Foreign Currency & Acquisitions

Foreign Currency Translation: Oversee translation of foreign subsidiary results under ASC 830, including exchange-rate governance, cumulative translation adjustment (CTA) roll-forwards, and related disclosure support.

Business Combinations & Integration: Lead the consolidation of newly acquired and newly formed entities. This includes opening balance sheet and purchase accounting entries under ASC 805, chart of accounts mapping, reporting timelines, and onboarding local finance teams to IonQ's close requirements.

Chart of Accounts & Mapping Governance: Maintain the consolidated chart of accounts and the mappings from entity ledgers to the consolidation structure. Control changes so reporting stays consistent across entities and periods.

External Reporting Support: Supply consolidated schedules and supporting analyses for quarterly and annual SEC filings, earnings materials, and Audit Committee reporting.

Process, Systems & Automation

Consolidation Systems: Serve as the accounting owner of OneStream consolidation, including workflows, data loads, validations, and consolidation and translation rules. Systems Integration: Support data flows between NetSuite, OneStream, and downstream planning and reporting tools such as Pigment. Make sure the consolidated results reconcile to the source ledgers.

Process Design: Build and document scalable consolidation processes, close calendars, and reporting package standards that reduce manual effort and shorten the close.

Continuous Improvement: Find the root causes of recurring consolidation adjustments and late or inaccurate submissions, and fix them upstream with entity controllers and shared services.

Controls, Audit & Compliance

Internal Controls: Design, document, and execute internal controls over the consolidation and financial reporting processes. Remediate control gaps as the control environment grows.

Audit Support: Serve as the primary consolidation contact for external auditors. Prepare consolidation schedules, roll-forwards, and supporting documentation (PBC list items) for quarterly reviews and the year-end audit.

Technical Accounting: Research and document accounting positions on consolidation, foreign currency, and business combination matters under US GAAP (ASC 805, ASC 810, ASC 830). Monitor policy compliance across entities.

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including consolidation accounting in a multi-entity, multi-currency environment
