Build your procurement career with hands-on commercial experience
Looking to build a career in procurement and want more than an entry-level purchasing role?
We’re looking for a Junior Procurement Specialist to join our Supply Chain team at our Melbourne Head Office. This is an opportunity to learn procurement from an experienced team while gaining hands-on exposure to sourcing, supplier management, commercial analysis, contracts and category management across Australia and New Zealand.
You don’t need years of procurement experience. We’re looking for someone with some early commercial, procurement, supply chain or analytical experience who is curious, commercially minded and genuinely interested in building a long-term career in Procurement.
About your role
This is a development-focused position designed to give you broad, practical exposure to how procurement works within a large industrial business.
Initially, you’ll support the Procurement team across sourcing activities, commercial analysis, contract administration, supplier onboarding and procurement reporting. You’ll also gain hands-on experience supporting categories such as fleet, packaging and travel.
As your knowledge and confidence build, you’ll progressively take responsibility for lower-risk sourcing activities and supplier relationships, developing the commercial and category management skills needed to progress your procurement career.
By becoming a Junior Professional within IXOM, you will undertake professional and technical development programs, be mentored by industry professionals and join the IXOM Professional Networking Group to develop your business skill and learning opportunities. If you’re curious, driven and ready to learn, this role gives you the experience, exposure and support to build a long-term career.
Key Responsibilities
- Support RFIs, RFQs and RFPs, including documentation, commercial comparisons and stakeholder communication.
- Support sourcing and contract management activities across fleet, packaging, travel and other procurement categories.
- Analyse spend, pricing and supplier information to support commercial decisions and category planning.
- Assist with supplier onboarding, performance monitoring, governance and compliance activities.
- Undertake administrative activities and data collection for management reporting.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders across the business.
- Maintain procurement data, reporting and supplier information while supporting improvements to systems and processes.
- Progressively take ownership of procurement activities as your capability develops.
- Who are we looking for?
- Some early experience within procurement, purchasing, commercial analysis, finance, supply chain, business administration or a similar commercial environment.
- Strong numerical and analytical capability, with confidence working with Excel and commercial data.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work across internal and external stakeholders.
- Good attention to detail, organisation and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, curious and eager to learn, with a genuine interest in developing a procurement career.
- A qualification in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
- Experience with SAP or another ERP system would be advantageous but isn't essential.
